Lads, remember who Billy's reporting on. It's bastard Bates, and Bates has probably changed his mind 100 times in the last couple of months. Billy has probably reported the truth of the day at every stage, so to speak. I'm more inclined to think that it's Bates (irrational!!) behaviour that's at the core of the different statuses, not Billy's sauces.
I still remember Boab taking a pasting, especially for the Lambert to Villa story. He was right in the end too!! Not one word of apology, either!
I think what I'm trying to say is that each of us on this board reports what we hear in good faith. No info is given maliciously or to wind people up. Personally, I like hearing rumours - it makes my day a little more interesting. So chaps, by all means disagree with a posting, but don't do it to a point where our posters just give up to avoid yet another pasting. I needs my days to be a little more interesting!

Yes, and he clearly decided he wants to stay. As I said, he wanted to "think it over" which was obviously crap. I think Bates is playing two investors to get the best deal possible FOR HIM. It seems he never intended to sell, but used a takeover as bait. Typical Bates, he is going to try and use someone else's money to get to the Prem, low risk strategy but high return, so if Leeds don't get promotion he hasn't used his cash. Tactically he is a smart swine and if he can convince someone to give him money he will. I really wish someone would come up with enough money to buy him out, but there aren't many people out there who can.

WJ - this is totally different. We know that there are talks ongoing, and we know it's about a takeover.
There are only 3 scenarios:
a) they will succeed
b) they will fail
c) there will be some sort of compromise deal whereby Bates is not bought out outright and he will either retain a majority or a minority stake
It's not rocket science. BillyS has claimed time and again every one of those scenarios. I can claim each one of them! This does not mean that, in the end when one of them comes true, he was in the know because of some "source". The whole lot is bull - BillyS is being fed baloney and he's passing it to us.
I for one am neither going to listen to the "latest update" nor accept that he was right when there is a final outcome, whichever of the 3 final outcomes it will be.

Elmo, I absolutely understand your thoughts, it is just as frustrating for me. These talks have been a moving target but that's Bates for you. If there was only one interested investor it would probably have been simpler, but Bates will manoeuver the situation to please himself. Then of course, there is the Harvey factor that has slowed things down, and the budget Warnock feels he needs to deliver the pot of gold. Bottom line, Bates has twisted a few times but now he's sticking. My info is the people Bates is negotiating with simply don't have enough to buy Leeds outright, but they will sacrifice Prem monies to Bates to gain full control, IF we ever get there.

Source: Leeds United official website re investment and LUST re their talks to get investors to come forward and they are aware that they want to buy the club outright.
So at least some of the investors (and according to LUST there are a large number, of which many are waiting in the wings to see the outcome of the current negotiations) are looking at a takeover.
If the prospect of a takeover was not on the cards, that would have been made very clear by Bates himself.
Certainly not pot, kettle or black. Certainly using the ofiical information that has been made available by the club and by those who are in the know (LUST are in the know regarding who is or could be at the table and their original intentions - hell, they matched the two sides together courtesy of Bates telling them to put their money where their mouth is!). Certainly aware that things could be successful or not. Certainly more interested in letting things go on and awaiting the result.
I just think that someone fed a line to BillyS and is now unable to extricate themselves from the original lie, so continue to string him along, and it is easy to see why if the source is as famous as BillyS states.

I therefore suggest that at the present moment, it is NOT FACT that it is about a takeover, hence 'pot, kettle & black' remains a legitimate comment. So, effectively, you are presenting your opinion as fact.

I'm not about to divulge sources as we are in advanced discussions ourselves over a European deal which neither party wants to compromise. I asked a direct question and was told that this was a takeover discussion with the Americans. I was told, at that time, that Bates was asking too much. In the event of an agreement being made my contact said that even they, who are Bates' supporters, expected a sting in the tail at the last possible moment as this was typical Bates' strategy.
This is a fact. They had met with Bates three weeks' earlier in Monaco. This company is also linked to Leeds United. They have nothing to gain by making misleading statements and I'm not a WUM. I harboured doubts about any takeover and said as much on JA606. I suspected that the "talks" were a smokescreen to give Bates an excuse for not investing in the team.
As time goes by I expect the takeover to happen but probably not in time for the new season and therefore, Warnock who could have walked given the lack of funds thus far, has bought players to get us through to the next window when funds will be made available.

Mate, the chairman of LUST has recently come out and said it is definitely 100% a takeover being discussed.
I also think too many people are believing too much of what LUST are saying. I assumed at the start that LUST were the ones behind introducing the prospective buyer with Bates, however they know as much as the rest of us.
Simon, you missed my point. I was simply stating that LUST announced that at the outset a takeover was the intention. However, as we all know in business, you can't always get what you want (to quote a certain Mr Jagger), and you most certainly will not get what you want with Bates - you'll only get what he wants. So yes, a takeover may have been fact at the start, but gawd knows where we are now.
