Because Stones never makes mistakes? He's young, he will make mistakes but his potential is clear to see. If he worked on his physique he could be more mobile and improve further. Through hard work and dedication Cristiano Ronaldo has gone from being a skinny kid with potential, to being a perfect athlete and the best player in the world.
The point is John Stone had played 77 games for everton over three seasons along with 15 england caps, they arent comparable at the moment, maguire is older also. Stones left everton at 20, maguire is 23 nearly 24.

Stones left Everton six months ago. He must age pretty quick.

well that was the big mistake against Bournemouth? Pretty obvious I would have thought?

You spoke of him having a terrible game in general, and I suggested that was down to the position he was playing. Don't put words in my mouth.

It was a silly penalty to give away but I thought in general he was serviceable for the rest of the game in a tough position for someone who isn't the nimblest of players.

Stones has been at City half a season, while Shaw has had a shocking injury to overcome. Patting yourself on the back about either transfer failing is a bit premature.

I'd agree if I'd done that. But I haven't. I was pointing out that my comments in today's post weren't hindsight.

I thought he was poor, pen was zero to do with the position he was playing to be honest.

He wouldn't be exposed by pacey wingers with no partner to cover for him, no.
That's mental....

So there are no pacey wingers that cut inside or no pacey strikers in the EPL, he was exposed as he lacks pace full stop. Not just a lack of pace playing right back. He gave away the pen due to his clumsiness to blame the position he was playing is utterly illogical.
