England is ok - but it’s not the finest country for me
I can think of countries which might be easier and more comfortable to live in than England but I'd prefer to live in a country which has some history and gravitas in the world so it has to be at least a G12 country for me and of those it has to be England.

Not to sound too Brexit but I personally think King Edmund of East Anglia, who was born, raised and martyred by the Vikings in England, is a more appropriate patron saint for England than a Greek soldier in the Roman army who was stationed in province of Syria-Palestine and never visited England.

This thread's probably not for you then. <ok>

I am a great admirer of the Scots. I am quite friendly with the welsh, especially one of them. I must confess to some sentiment about Old Ireland, in spite of the ugly mask she tries to wear. But this is not their night. On this one night in the whole year we are allowed to use a forgotten, almost a forbidden word. We are allowed to mention the name of our own country, to speak of ourselves as "Englishmen," and we may even raise the slogan "St. George for merry England."
W, Churchill.

As my ex work colleague said beautiful country spoilt by the people, he was French by the way.
This.
Unfortunately increasingly true. I worry where we're heading as a country.
Just back from abroad. The contrast is stark; it hits you more when you've been away from it for even just a short while. Of course, there are far far worse countries, but I nowadays unfortunately agree with you SW3CT and Balkan.
