Gus Poyet fears Sunderland will be 'embarrassed' in the cup final

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has warned his side will be "embarrassed" in the Capital One Cup final if they produce a repeat of the performance that saw them lose 4-1 at Arsenal.
The Black Cats face Manchester City in the final at Wembley on 2 March.
Poyet was left frustrated by his team's inability to cope with a rampant Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.
He said: "If we play like this against Manchester City we could be embarrassed."
atter
It was his side's failure to close down Arsenal's players that worried Poyet, and he suggested some of his men may now miss out on a chance to play in the final.
"Now no-one has put themselves on the teamsheet for next week," he warned. "They all had a great chance to show me, but everything I had in mind went in 90 minutes. Now I have to start from zero.
"Arsenal proved again that they can beat anyone, but sometimes players pick the team for you. Now I have a few options for Wembley.
"There are plenty of similarities between the way Arsenal and Manchester City play for me to ponder on.

Keeps them all on their toes after a **** performance against Arsenal and a good piece of psychology imo.

I think he picked his final team (barring injuries) a few weeks ago and his tactics and will have meticulously studied and prepared for this game in the way a top manager does. He is a superb professional and a great man manager.

this is why i said it was a dress rehearsal as such for us against the gunners and that was his intentions as well ,the players have not made his job any easier in fact its turned it into a selection nightmare when you consider how the fringe players gave their all in the soton match.

The result and the performance against Arsenal, a week before the Final, will have absolutely no bearing on the team or formation for Sunday IMO. I think Gus will have picked the team he wants for the final weeks ago but in threatening them this week he keeps them guessing and fretting and uses that nervous energy to make them focused in training and preparation for Sunday.

The team, formation and the tactics will have been in place 2 or 3 weeks ago, subject to injuries and he and his backroom staff will have prepared and discussed it at great length. You don't start to experiment or change formations in a final.

i supposed you enjoyed saturday did you, well i dont want a repeat of that debacle

Saturday's gone marra..This is our first League Cup final since 1985..Nobody really expects us to win, so as far as I'm concerned it is a no pressure game which we can all go and enjoy...If we win, then it will just be bloody great though..

eve of a cup final and you are still looking for negatives...chill out and enjoy the occasion man..

No one wants a repeat of that shambles and I know, you're only as good as your last result BUT
think back to Soton, Chelski, Manure - we were written off for all of them but we only went and won them
KTF, FTM and let's enjoy the Wembley party.

That's the kind of balanced view I appreciate. <ok>

Can't wait for the game. I'll be sat in front of telly with popcorn and all.

Everyone loves a good train wreck. This one will be in slow-mo, 90'' plus injury time.

Your manager sure sounds confident...

I will be back on Sunday afternoon to discuss the result with you boys.

I'd leave it til Monday if I was you, we'll still be returning from Wembley - can you help me out with directions? Oops, you haven't been there in a while have you, your map will be out if date!
