Euro 2020 qualifiers: Striker Will Grigg pulls out of Northern Ireland squad with injury

Sunderland striker Will Grigg has been ruled out of Northern Ireland's Euro 2020 qualifiers against Estonia and Belarus with an injury.

The former Wigan Athletic forward has returned home and will not feature in the matches at Windsor Park on Thursday and Sunday.

Hope its a knock and nothing too serious.

Sounds terrible! He'll be out the rest of the season then.

This is a bit of a worry, time for the club to allay fans concerns asap.

BBC are saying it's his long standing ankle injury which he had when we signed him, didn't seem to affect him on Saturday unless he's had a knock in training.

The info is so vague my hunch is they’ve allowed him to go knowing we’ve a lot on.

I could be miles off, but I don’t think I am.

Long term, Grigg in a higher league with a club like ours benefits Northern Ireland.

    Would be my guess also.

More of withdrawing him to rest as opposed to withdrawing for an actual injury.

    Yep.

Just seems a bit strange that there’s no mention of what the injury is, and that there was no suggestion of injury after the weekend.

I'm not sure they'd let him go and miss the first games of the qualifying campaign when they've got a shout at getting to the tournament. That would be utter madness. The good thing is he's got a couple weeks until the next league game, if he's not 100% for the final just rest him for that too. The league is everything.
