How much was it? It's only £4m if we get to the premier league but I've seen nothing stating what the deal is made up of
Let's hope it's a case of £4m if he gets to the Premier League with us, rather than if we get to the Premier League regardless. Because, based on his previous form, we'll be flogging him this time next year (if we're in the Championship of course).
How well he will do in the Championship will probably depend on how well the team does in the Championship. (If we get there)
That's true. His previous two visits have been with a struggling team. Not sure he's Premier League quality though.
If it costs us 1.5 to 3m to get promoted this year that's nowt.

Relatively happy with the deal, but can't help think we would have been better off keeping Maja, even if it was just until summer.
1. Maja's goals:games record in League One is better than Grigg's - equal to Grigg's best ever season, and he's only 19.
2. If media reports are to be believed, the fees received for Maja and paid for Grigg are similar (£.5m rising to £3.5ish).
3. If Maja stayed and had a good season, and we got promoted, there's a chance we could have convinced him to stay, and he would have continued to improve. Grigg is, most likely, already as good as he will ever be.
4. Grigg will only be useful for one season (league one) as he's shown numerous times he can't cut it in the championship, so even if we lost Maja in summer for nothing, same difference.
5. Maja's wages for the rest of the season would have been considerably lower than Grigg's as he was still on his first professional contract. We were paying him peanuts.
6. Grigg will miss the first few games through injury, Maja wouldn't have.
Granted we can potentially recover a fee for Grigg in future whereas that wasn't a certainty with Josh. But given all of the above, it seems to me it would have made far more sense to just hang on to Maja and see where we stood in the summer.

Grigg scored 19 goals in league one last season and at least 2 hattricks, Wigan lost only one game with him scoring !. He has scored 62 goals in three seasons and 1 against Man c !

Shouldn't keep any player that wants to leave. He told us he didn't want to be here anymore. So we made the right choice imo.
Interesting take on it, couple of points I'd add. It's possible that Maja might have spat his dummy out if he didn't get his move and have stopped trying or even turning up. Not likely but it's a risk and it's the kind of behaviour we've seen from several players in recent years.
Second thing is that if there's a sell on clause in his contract (think there is can't remember) and he goes for big bucks in the future, we'll be laughing.
I’ll add a third. Can we argue Grigg wasn’t in as strong a side as Maja? I’d suggest we are a far better side than Wigan were last year.
Kevin Phillips was scoring 24 in 60 for Watford, but had 3 hat tricks, one against us I believe? That leaves 15 in 57. So by logic a true figure 1 in 3.25 or so.
Next season, better side better midfield and he’s 1 in 1.8, then 1 in 1.3 in Premier League first year.
You simply can’t compare on goals alone, unless there’s a huge gulf between which them points at ability.
There’s a variance related to the overall team surely.

Learning curve? I think they’re miles ahead of that and have done the best business we could have

I got the feeling he wasn't the type to spit his dummy out, appeared to give his all right to the last. Plus he'd have been playing for that big money move in summer.
But yeah maybe he would have downed tools, we'll never know.

That's just it - we've signed a player who scores at this level who wants to be here - no risk strategy. Massive risk sticking with a player who asked to leave (he also, before a deal had had been done, told Ross/Donald that he wouldn't play another game for SAFC) So he had downed tools
