'According to reports Manchester City are interested in Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

It is understood Gordon has not been offered a new contract by Sunderland boss Steve Bruce and could be sold this summer.

The Journal claims City boss Roberto Mancini is eyeing the Scot.

However, it is believed that his Arsenal counterpart, Arsene Wenger, is also watching developments at the Stadium of Light.

It seems the stopper’s knee problems have caused the talks to be postponed. '

It seems this may have some truth in it, if we are signing the Coventry keeper on a free.
I would imagine his wages will be considerably less than Gordon's as well.

I say a straight swap for Ned and Michael Johnson (remember him ?) and Shay Given.

I would say to City 5-8 million plus Given. Given wants first team football which he would get here and it would give us a few more quid to spend on outfield players. Also the Mig would learn a lot from him and be more of an all round goalkeeper in 2-3 years than he is now. win win scenario for me if they really do want him.

I'd take Onuoha and a few million for Gordon. That would come to around the £9mil we spent on him. I'd love to see him stay but his fitness and lack of command around the box is worrying.

This wouldn't happen mate. Westwood is about to be signed by us so I can see him becoming our new no.1. If it was a player plus cash deal it won't be for another goalkeeper. Westwood is pretty nailed on. I do hope Gordon goes to a big club though, that plays champ league football.. Unreal keeper on his day...

For us, Onuoha would be a good shout if the deal could get done.

This news concerns me. If we are really serious about pushing on as a club we should not be selling our keeper who is arguably one of the best in the prem and replacing him with an unproven championship keeper. Anyone remember middlesborough a few years ago were an established premiership club but sold a lot of their better players and didnt replace them properly. Well look where they are now. Currently weve sold Bent (No replacement), Henderson (Personally i think hes cack but people on here seem to rate him) and now possibly Gordon and even Gyan.

leave <party>

Is he really a £9m keeper now? We paid far too much for him when we got him from Hearts. He wasn't worth £9m then and I don't think he is now. If I was in the player valuation business, I would say he's actually worth about £5-6m, but I'm not, so I suppose he's worth whatever a club is willing to pay for him.

IMO, there is no way we are going to recoup £9m when he goes, whether it be in cash, cash plus player or just a player swap.

Before his first major injury he was just starting to look like a nine million pound keeper, but seems to have lost a bit of confidence when he has played since then.

I think you're bang on the money there. Ever since that injury you can see the anxiety on his face and fear in his eyes when he plays. It was most prevalent during the away game at Stoke. I can't ever remember seeing a keeper as terrified as he looked in that match. It was pretty obvious that Tony Pulis had singled Craig out for "special treatment" by his players and let's be honest, it worked a treat!
