The real question must be.... does the lib dem party have enough candidates.

I mean ukip made an empty boast of having a candidate in every english and welsh constituency.... but we all know the standard there.

Does lib dem have enough realistic candidates to do anything?

You might ask the same of labour btw.

It would take a seismic political shift, a genuinely jaw-droppingly historic change in the British political landscape, for the Lib Dems to even become the majority opposition, nevermind get into power and form a government as the main party

Any talk of this happening is simply well intentioned, commendable but ultimately deluded fantasy-land idealism from Remainers still clinging onto the prospect that Brexit can not only be super-soft-Brexit but stopped completely and the country remain an EU member. As much as I would welcome it, this simply isn't going to happen

The best prospect for the Lib Dems is for them to remake a figure somewhere around all the gains that they made in 2010 and then lost in 2015 and be able to have a decent say and affect on what form Brexit ultimately takes and what our future relationship with Europe looks like by hindering the new Tory government's proposals with its increased majority

I've no idea who I want to vote for, Brexit showed more than ever that all the parties will quite simply lie as to what they will do in order to get votes, so we are voting for the best liar. So bring on your ****e and I'll decide who's lies look the best and vote for them.

Given the way the country has gone in the last 10 months since the referendum I'll absolutely be voting with my principles and instincts and those are to vote Lib Dem and be able to express my view on the attitudes and standards this country should have not just at the present moment, but always. I know this is probably folly but at least it will give me peace of mind and some twisted satisfaction that I tried to put this country back in a good place and move it in what I see as a positive direction when many many people are trying to turn it towards and manipulate it into a very nasty, isolated, insular place, in many ways it's already there.

And yes, they're all a bunch of shady, devious, sneaky, unethical, two-faced hustlers and slaves to the faces behind the faces.

If Blair does join Lib Dems, I see a number of Labour MPs defecting to them so that they can campaign their anti Brexit stance.

If the Lib Dems allow that to happen they'll be consigning themselves to oblivion. Brand Blair is toxic. They should stay as far away from him as possible.

    Very possible

imo at least one of the main three parties (if there currently are three, or two even !!) has to fight this election on a pro-EU, no-Brexit stance in order to give the 48% a genuine option to vote for. As somebody who still very much believes we should stay in the EU I'm simply not going to vote Tory or Labour when their leaders both want Brexit

If the Tories consolidate power in June we'll be living in something approaching a right-wing despot. Really we need a new left party to stand against this. Obviously it's way too short a time for this to be created so perhaps the Lib Dems could become that if they recruit all/most pro-Europe MPs to stand on the platform I mention above, but then see my earlier post on the LDs

This election is nail in the coffin of Corbyn. May is so sure of winning it, otherwise she would not call the election.

Any chance of anyone other than the SNP taking seats in Scotland? Used to be, Labour could win seats up there but Scotland doesn't like Labour anymore. Surely with over 50% voting against Independence, there is a lot of resistance to having a Madonna song upset the country again.

I think Labour voters will desert them in their droves at this election.

The Tory heartlands will be untouched, but some of the more marginal seats down South who were heavily remain might prove to be an issue for the Tories.

As I think they might have underestimated the residual anger about Brexit and the strong anti 'hard Brexit' view of a large proportion of moderates.

They'll still win with an increased majority like.

Imo i honestly think this is a landslide.

The only party with a possibility of retaining vote is snp... and they already have mostly all the seats

Tories are going to wipe out labour here and the turkeys voted for christmas

    It's all such a mess.
One the one hand, you could say that if the parties all fight this election on a platform of their stance on the EU, it effectively becomes a second referendum - however that will be distorted by the electorate's historical ideological allegiance to left or right wing policies.
I've always voted Labour, simply because I think Tory philosophy belongs in the past, and we need a more socially responsible attitude to government. However, Corbyn is an unmitigated disaster for the Left, imo, and I don't see that the Lib Dems have any real chance to succeed. Unless some unimagined upheaval occurs, I can only see a Tory victory, which they'll use as vindication for their EU exit policies.
I was horrified that the majority voted to leave the EU, and that so many people took clowns like Farage and Johnson seriously. It taught me just how wrong I could be about people, and sadly I can only see more of the same on the horizon.

Sadly I concur with most of this, apart from being a Labour voter, they're not my party ... and I'm even less likely to vote for them as a 'one-off save us from total destruction by the dark side kind of vote' with Corbyn as a potential PM, that would just be totally embarrassing and dangerous for this country

Coincidentally I think that Corbyn and his political strategy are things that belong in the past, we should be living in a time of progressive, open-minded politics that can incorporate many political positions, instead we're being forced into an era of orthodoxies and dense ultimatums

Your last two sentences are the most worrying but they are perceptive, I think it's entirely probable that I have misjudged and underestimated the utter ******edness of many people in this country and its electorate
