That to is true, all I will add is and I am not saying it's correct just playing devils advocate here, when things start going wrong I would find it hard to have total respect for a manager, who probably doesn't sign the players and says what he is told to say when the awkward questions are being asked.

We have not been great this season but look back to the Joe Williams expose over his criticism of the treatment from the rehab team and our results and performances since then have been shocking, I said at the time that Holden should be publicly supporting his players and it might backfire if he didn't, maybe the players felt let down and that is a very quick way to lose a dressing room.

So maybe this is cyclical ?
We had a glorious chance to get to the Prem in 2008 and again in 2018 but on both occasions the Managers were not backed with a few quality signings, or even loans to get us over the finishing line. Instead we bought crap like Nick Carle and Dele Adebola.
So by my calculations, the next golden opportunity will be along in 2028 and a few of us won't be here to witness the next one.

Simply put if SL wants out of this division before his time is up and see both Bristol City and Bristol Bears in the top flight then you have to employ a Pat Lamb off football.

    A proven manager.

    Howe-Pearson-Cook

Apparently Bristol City only interested in two names.

Haven't you heard that one before and 48 hours later.............................................he's up on the roof.

It's the ultimate badge kissers response.

You do realise the football equivalent of Pat Lam (that is the correct spelling by the way) is Pep Guardiola. I don’t think he will be interested in us

Very true but wouldn't be nice to be thinking higher than Michael Appleton?, wouldn't it be nice to at least be thinking that Pearson or Howe were in the mix or maybe as has been suggested Jokanović, is that really too much to ask?

I’m not convinced with this Appleton thing. Everytime even before LJ came he was a favourite due to working once with Ashton so this is third time now. For all we know he might think the same of Ashton as we do. Apparently he was better at Oxford when Ashton left as he never had such a turn over of players. I think one summer Ashton got a load of players that were not that used, sounds familiar.

My understanding was LJ was the one and only target.

Even if it is a red herring, wouldn't be nice to think we were at least exploring the chance of somebody with a real championship pedigree, instead of all of the usual lower league cheap options.

No I mean it’s our fans chucking money on him to win a few quid so his odds shorten quickly. How many times have you heard “I bet they choose Appleton”?
It’s Ashton that has made me feel this way about the club. And I wouldn’t put it past him walking across to KFC and employing their manager.

off course I’m aware of that-but a Pearson Or Howe has to be realistic.
Both would bring the fan base back together and both would have the respect off the older and younger players.
For me this is the minimum standard that SL needs to aiming for.
