Went to see Macbeth at hull truck last night
Hmm
Very long
Some bizarre reason set in the present I think with guns!! And a black Macbeth
Anyway not great
And the little **** who came with his mam nearly got a slap for rattling his goodie packet
And not offering me one
I love going to theatre, but never got into any of Shakespeare’s stuff

To be completely honest I think it’s all ****.

I went to see Steve Steinmans Vampire''s Rock sequel on Friday
puts on a good show, and leather clad mini skirt wearing vampire chicks always a welcome addition.
was a little disapointed though as i didnt realise it was nearly all original music he had written himself so didnt know one song.
the original show was full of famous hits, from Queen/ Meatloaf, etc
off to see That'll be The day with my old man on Wednesday, at least i should know most them!

A local theatre company where I live usually puts on a Shakespeare comedy outdoors every summer. Last year it was Midsummer Nights Dream and it was very funny, but in a slapstick sort of way as opposed to jokes and one-liners. I've also seen Shakespeare done in Stratford by a 'heavyweight' company, I almost fell asleep, my wife did after 5 minutes, I had to wake her up at the end.

I queried this very point to a Shakespearean scholar once.

He said if I was an Elizabethan yeoman I'd have been rolling in the aisles, unable to contain my mirth; this stuff was comedy gold to the sixteeth century mindset.

The problem, apparently, was me. I just didn't get the jokes; I lacked the appropriate sense of humour.

He added that the only humour that has survived down the ages is, (as Plum mentions), the slapstick.

Which doesn't need language and is the reason why Benny Hill is so popular abroad.

They’ve sent an email asking what I thought of Macbeth
Told em Macbeth didn’t emote well enough
First half dragged
And it was better second half but Macbeth woulda been out of sight before Mally n Macduff got their act together in injury time

In the 60s I did Midsummer Nights Dream for Eng Lit 'O' level - we had a great teacher who tried to impart his love for all things Shakespeare. I remember him saying pretty similar to you, that it was Elizabethan slapstick; there was a section where there was a play within the play, two lovers were whispering through a wall, the wall was played by a human which our teacher thought was hilarious and tried to convey the humour - I could see the joke, I just didn't find it funny ...

Just tried it out of interest on my phone and Tiger Leisure top of the list, Hull FC Shop 2nd, then all City (didn't scroll too far). . Images all City without scrolling

It must think you are a closet FC fan ;)

I get different now to what I first got last night.
Not 606 hull city forum, the font of all knowledge, better than Google,

Edit. The only time I ever set foot in the boulevard was to see the vikings.

Justin Fletcher was on top form today as usual, no grand old Duke of York , but still a set list with roof raisers , I am the music man and hokey kokey as standouts . Luckily sounds as our game wasn’t a bad one to miss , except the result

Took my daughter to see Sombr tonight. Pretty good actually, I thought he’d be ****e. Funny how much better and energetic music can be live vs the gentle studio mixes.
