The lying and persecution of the family began almost immediately after her abduction and murder. The local republicans daubed "soldier lover" on the family door and then spread a rumour - and actually told the hungry, lonely children that their mother had abandoned them and run off with a British soldier.
Not a single person on the Falls Road believed the fabrication. Everyone knew the IRA was engaged in a campaign of isolating and ostracising anyone who showed sympathy to the British army. In the couple of months before Jean McConville's disappearance, at least 14 women were taken from their homes and beaten. Some had their heads shaved, some were tied to lamp posts and tarred and feathered. Mrs McConville, republican sources now say, was murdered not only because she was suspected of having shown some kindness to an injured soldier but also because she was a Protestant who married a Catholic and moved to the Falls Road.
bullshit, "not a single person"
thats some assertion to make. bullshit, "not a single person" thats some assertion to make.
Anyone I know, for lack of a better term, active on the ground at the time, are absolutely sure of the fact she was. She was caught with a transmitter once and warned, and caught with one a second time and that was it. The fact she was a protestant had no bearing on it as she had lived there with no issues for a significant period previous. The whole story about her tending to a dying soldier is also a fabrication according a good few. A good story for maximum provo PR damage

OOh so this http://www.theguardian.com/politics...ts-dup-mps-in-lavish-downing-street-reception and the arrest of Gerry happen at the same time, how convenient.
Also the prods, in their gleeful gloating of this affair, conveniently forget that the fact she was living in Divis was as a result of her being chased out of her own area for marrying a taig.
Also all condemnation regarding treatment of informers has always been levelled on the republican side. No blame ever seems to be cast the way of Special Branch/MI5 for their blackmail "recruitment" of informers. How the IRA dealt with informers was never any big secret, no sane person would willingly become an informer. The vast majority of informers were almost forced into this position by Special Branch, usually by means of character destroying "dirt" on the personal (both real and fabricated). How come noone ever condemns the British side of things for forcing people into a situation of almost mortal danger.

She was a tout and got her ****ing dues. End of story. She had been warned once which was more than most.
She had been supplying the British with details of the movement s of Republican s. **** knows how many were killed or jailed due to her information.
She shouldn't have been secretly buried though, no one should have been.
Even that **** Nairac, although he made a lovely burger.

^^^^^^
The kind of backwards Irish attitude that means Brits need to look after you time and again.
Aye, according to Ciaran here the IRA were so ****ing dumb that widow women living in a ****pile knew about the IRA plans.
No wonder they gave up.

No wonder they gave up.
Aye, Ciaran covered that and it's still utter ****e. Not the IRA's fault in other words![]()
Murder a single parent, blame the British. That's the crux of the argument.
