Wouldn't call Germany biggish tbh. Regardless it's more than we managed in the 40-50 years previously.

I always find it odd that we never hear this spoken about for Bobby Robson at Italia '90. 3 draws in the group stage and then scraped two et wins against opposition much inferior to us but that's spoken about as some sort of heroic effort.
We beat Egypt 1-0 in the group, the rest of what you say stands though, iirc everyone wanted Robson's head.

My mistake. Was years ago I looked it up, think it was in the build up to euro 2020 when everyone was slating 2018 and I couldn't understand the difference.

Arnold just plays for himself, long balls and crosses straight to the opposition, no one ever mentions it though.

Bobby Robson got lucky as an England manager IMHO ... in '86 we were fookin' awful until 2 things happened that likely saved us from an ignominious group stage exit ...

Bryan Robson dislocated his shoulder and Ray Wilkins got sent off - Robson was therefore forced to make changes for the final group game against Poland that we needed to win or we were out ...

He dropped the rather one dimensional Mark Hateley and brought in rookie Gary Lineker and the little genius that was Peter Beardsley... we won 3-0 with a Lineker hat-trick, two of which were set-up by Beardsley... we then grew into the tournament until being ousted by Argentina and the Hand of God...

Yeah, cause England were always so much better without Robson in the team.

We were in that tournament for sure ...

Yep, can't disagree.

We lost to the Argies, however, and I'd suggest Robbo wouldn't have let Diego dance round him the same way Reid (who I've always rated highly btw) and Hodgson did for that second goal.

He'd have taken the little **** out.

Agree ... and Terry ****ing Fenwick had to be the slowest centre-back at the tournament ...<laugh>
