I think it's just ridiculous - I get why the rules are in place, and I agree to a degree with punishment, but we also should remember this is a sport that actively promotes gambling or certainly it's enormous amounts of tv money does. I'm anti gambling hence I don't bet, and I've seen first hand the damage it does to people, but the rules are a mockery. We are talking about a worldwide ban on the guy plying probably his only trade. Whille other people within the sport and especially within governing bodies get away with all sorts of shhite including corruption. Funniest part is I can't believe Newcastle allowed themselves to be stitched up like this. I would imagine they are fully within their rights to sack their player, afterall what good is he now?

err he is still collecting his wage and will do so throughout his ban so i wouldn't worry too much about him .

Still don't make it right, there's probably many a player I'd rather not have playing football than him. Newcastle look absolute mugs after this.

Why?

Betting is done outside the work place, they wouldn't even have the evidence unless the players supplied it via their phones....lots of things have been captured on mobile phones other than gambling and been ignored by the footballing bodies.

I don't think he even played in the games he bet on.
 
I've just remembered the guy didn't even want to come to Newcastle, no wonder his club wanted him rid. <whistle>

I had a job once with a slightly shady gambling business which contractually didn’t allow me to bet on football so I didn’t. Obviously just got mates to do my acca for me but I’d have been sacked instantly if caught. It’s a pretty easy thing to not do. Even if you’re a gambling addict which most of these blokes aren’t then claim they are, you can spunk as much as you like on horses and roulette.

necause betting is legal the "other" stuff is for the Police and CPS though clubs can take action on the grounds of reputational damage .

Exactly betting is legal, smacking your bird about is not. The legal one incurs a world wide ban the 'other' one is you just fook off to another country and keep your head down - the rules/law are an ass.
