Who decides its outdated and why should we get rid, the monarchy do a lot for this country and are well respected around the world and not just in the commonwealth.

Keep the monarchy, I like being different to the rest of the world.

GSTQ

Put it to a vote <ok>

See you hit the nail on the head as to why it's a dumb hippie idea tbh.

It's a **** ton of work for something that will only further cause debate and division in a country crammed with too much debate and division.

It's a lot of effort for someone to say "see, now we are modern" and would have absolutely no meaningful impact on normal people's lives except creating more elections, which people already hate.

I agree to also will add...

Having a head of state that has been trained for the position since birth and remaining as head of state for many years with no political bias gives great stability and avoids the corruption that exists with other forms of government.

Lol, keep the Monarchy coz it's easier.

They are largely a symbolic institution these days (albeit one that costs a ****ing fortune to maintain)

Personally I think it's important for the people of a country to decide who their head of state is, some are happy to have it foisted upon them.

Again, not to come across all monarchistic. but how has that worked out for our trans atlantic cousins of late?
Their last two heads of state have been a narcissistic pussy grabber and a senile old racist.

Why should people not aim for an easier option when the more difficult one makes again, no meaningful impact on anyone's life?

Ok, she's dead and we have President John Smith, he is an artist who everyone respects. Like the one they have in Ireland. We now have to deal with changing every single institution at home and lots abroad, but at least we got to vote for John Smith, who is a swell guy.

Or would we go for a system like France? Which is in all practical terms, identical.

I'd rather we not all focus on utter bollocks tbh, like we always seem to in Britain.

That's politicians for you.

Personally I'd vote for David Attenborough for head of state lol

Anyway, the basic principle of having an elected head of state is key for me, not somebody who happens to be there because they've been enabled through wealth and privilege

Your argument basically comes down to let's not bother with democracy coz it's too much effort lol

Yeah, and you have no way to reply because you can't name a single benefit to changing beyond Pinkie would like to change it.

Democracy at work bro, try and change all our minds because right now you're a minority.

well since we would probably have had Tony Blair elected not that long ago and have elected various vacuous tossers to the real position of power i feel your faith in the general public voting sense is probably misplaced .

PS Boaty McBoatface<laugh>
