I feel obliged to butt into this fascinating convo with the fairly obvious point that excellent european teams aren't in the European Conference League .

Rennes currently third in France, PSV currently second (and in title race with Ajax) in The Netherlands.. . Feyenord are in the other semi and are third in the Dutch league and Roma who we play in the semi are currently fifth in Italy ... you seem to be referencing how clubs did in the previous season rather than where they are now ... Roy is all about "current" mate ... last season apparently has no relevance ... so we have made it to a stage with next season's CL participators ... so thanks for your contribution, you've just obliterated "Munse's logic" ... which is itself an oxymoron ... so thanks

the "noise" is that his agent wants 400k but cant see us offering much over 300k and Mane won't get offered as much i'd guess around 250k purely because the club runs off its own money .

I suppose the crux is,who would you get instead and what would they cost in transfers and wages

Are Brighton in a European semi-final? ... nope... are Newcastle? nope ... but you have both had relatively good seasons comparatively ... we are in a European semi-final, after winning the FA Cup last season and the Prem title in 2015/16 ... guess it is all about expectations and I'm more than happy to be challenging for more, and different, silverware ... there are only a few trophies but we seem to be winning more than our fair share... so ain't complaining ... good luck with your ambition of a top half finish btw . . You got knocked out of the Europa League so not good enough for that.
Only reason you are still in Europe is to UEFA's stupid get KO rule drop into another **** Europa Cup/Trophy and lets reward failure with more ****ty European competitions.

that is why you have to have limits but most of the first team on are on fairly recently signed contracts and one suspects Mane & Salah were left to last deliberately .
