That's not defending, that's hacking someone down who's through on goal.

Well yeah. Kind of the same thing in this instance.

Did you think when Henry handballed that goal against the paddies that that was a smart move or he was a cheating ****?

He tried and succeeded in deceiving the referee. That wasn’t the case here.

All players cheat. They dive, claim corners and throw ins that they know have come off them, roll around clutching their face when hardly touched and that's excepted as normal nowadays but if you say hacking down someone like that is acceptable and 'smart defending' then count me out...he needs to be banned for a long time

It's not 'acceptable', he received a red card and a ban.

I'm just saying its an affront to the game and he should get a long ban, the cheating count.

I don't see why, I see diving/simulation as a far bigger issue. They're not trying to con the ref or anything.

If an England player does it at a semi final at Wembley this summer then I'd be delighted.

But as the OP asks would you buy him a pint?

He’s not cheated though any more than any other player who commits a professional foul. You can’t treat it more harshly because it’s the last minute of a cup final. The FA can add to a ban for a particularly dangerous tackle but don’t see how that could be the case here.

Absolutely. This is far more palatable than a dive to win a game.

I see cheating as trying to decieve the officials, not committing a blatant foul knowing what you'll get.

Is every single foul cheating?

If one of my lot saw someone through on goal and didn't try to take the opposition out by any means possible, I would be er, let's say disappointed.

Some fouls are inadvertent or without intent.

Where a player makes a conscious decision to bring down another player who would be in on goal - the so-called “professional” foul - that is cheating, and ought to be severely punished IMO.
