i still remember Tommo getting charged by the FA with "bringing the game into disrepute" due to his rant after the ref in LC final gave Forest a pen when Tommo brought him down just outside the box . The basis of his rant was " I'm the Liverpool & England captain so course i know to foul em before they are in the box for christs sake"
of course it is, doesn't need to be a cup final imo, if someone is clean through on goal you take him out and hope for a yellow.
This is a couple of years before I was born, but I am guessing they didnt have the "Last man" rule back then, because that would be an instant red card these days
I was 13...it was the first time they used the term professional foul as far as I remember. I think that it becsme an automatic red card after that cos there was a huge out cry iirc.
They tried to make it an automatic red card a season or 2 later, but it didn't actually come into effect until 1990, so that new hand-ball rule may be here a while.
