If I were heading up from the south like you I'd park in Alty and get a tram in. Have a few beers somewhere.
Media City is good for beers but you'd be going past the ground to get there and then back again to go home. Easier on the the tram though.

Just had a look and didn't realise it was that close, definitely a good shout that and it avoids driving into Manchester which was a **** for the City game and that was a Sunday.

Sale Waterpark then get tram to Trafford Bar. Always less crowded than Altrincham line and easier to get on tram on way back.
