Do you think that with the amount of young players in the current team that it could be a tad early for this current crop to win something?
There's a famous quote about never winning things with youngsters. Anything is possible, if you're in the squad, then you're in there on footballing merit and have the potential. That said, experience also counts for a lot, especially in comps like these. I just want to see England being a bit braver. I think we play too cautiously, which makes us predictable. I know you can't go gung ho, because there is a plan to qualifying from the group stage, which it looks like we'll achieve. But when we come up against decent oppo, it's almost like we've been figured out before a ball is even kicked.
Yeah fair shout on all points there. I just don't think we're in that bad nick. Still, time will tell I guess.
I think England have one of the best squads. I feel we look at other nations and over appreciate their players whilst doing the opposite to ours. Yes we maybe struggling in the GK and Centre defence aspect of our team. But full backs and attacking we’re up there as one of the best. Not far behind France. Overall I would have France certainly clear no1 team but Germany aren’t what they were a few years back. Belgium have an ageing defence but there attack is up there but maybe lack a bit of depth? Portugal is Wolves littered with a couple of superstars. To say we should be happy to make the last 16 is terribly under achieving Although, I think we’re a few years away from hitting our potential. Come the next European championships we should be one of the favourites
I can't get my head around how negative people are about us. We are sitting on 4 points from 2 games without a goal conceded and posters on here seem to think for some reason that we are terrible. They don't support England, they just whinge about us all the time. I'd hope a lot of these would stay away from England games, they'd bring us nothing but negativity with their bleating on. Some of the comments I'm seeing suggests that they're just spitting out things that have been associated with England for a long time even though it doesn't apply now. Southgate is the first manager in my lifetime that has ****ed the big names off and will play players in form, instead. Leeds and West Ham midfielders as our central partnership... That's always been a position filled by the big club players. I disagree about the goalkeeper position. Pickford is average at club level but for whatever reason he excels at international level. I thought he has been solid up until now. I've noticed it's the big club supporters that are making most of the noise. Their arrogance is something to behold. We know we've not got the best squad or players in the world but yet Southgates record is very good with what he's got, just not good enough for them. A world cup semi-final, 3rd in the nations league, and so far we are getting out of this group without breaking a sweat. However, we aren't destroying teams 5-0 every game with free flowing football so we are ****e and Southgate needs replaced. What's the point in following a team (they don't definitely don't support) if you are just going to tell everybody how **** they're and almost take pleasure in being knocked out so they can tell everybody that they were right. I don't get it.
I don’t like Southgate though his tactics are negative and he’s been blessed with a good team. Croatia WC semi springs to mind. Croatia had 4 class players whilst the rest were quite average. We went 1-0 up and were on top. From memory we played a negative 2nd half and lost.
I do think it's interesting that those who seem to be having the biggest complaints are those who regularly say they don't like international football. That's not a dig btw, but maybe why certain people find it hard to offer their unconditional support.
Personally think people over rate this squad sas imo the CM isn't up to scratch and that is probably the most important part of he team . I also think the constant tinkering with squads and formations have meant a "team" has never become established as it should prior to an International comp .
Not bothered about tactics, mate. Only results. Can you remember a time when England haven't been blessed with a good team? He's not the quality of Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes type of players. So he's working with less than what previous managers have had to work with and he's doing better, imo. We've usually got a team of old farts, he's brought through a lot of young players who can play and grow together as a team.
