Now a controversial penalty! Dean Smith's going to get booted out of Manchester! <laugh>
Defender with his hand up. A bit harsh, but that's the way they go nowadays.

The useless chump Walton on BT says it’s offside during the game and then changes his mind afterwards as he’s read the ****ing rules.

Had this a few seasons ago when Lovren swiped at a ball and deflected it through to an offside Harry Kane, who was in turn then fouled for a pen (which he missed). If he jumps over the ball and lets it through, Kane is offside, as is Rhodri in this case. That is surely not right, but it is the rules.

If he wasn't offside he's not there to win the tackle.

Mental, and this is the problem when you try and make an imperfect game have perfect and to the letter rules.
Only he’s run 10 yards to take the ball off him lol.

He came back onside then won the ball didn’t he? Can’t see what the argument is

He's gaining an advantage because of the position he is in: but as soon as Mings deliberately plays the ball, he's onside. But if Mings doesn't play it, Rhodri nicks the ball and City go on to score Mings will be crucified for not playing to the whistle. It's the rules, but I personally think it stinks.

That's the difference between someone kicking it and trying to control it, though.
Mings was interfered with by the offside player. Lovren wasn't. One's just controlling it. The other's playing it.

Which he couldn't have done if he wasn't so far offside.

Him being in an offside position clearly interfered with the play. All the more reason to drop this interfering with play nonsense.

He was back onside when he won the ball though, wasn’t he? After the defender played it.

I’ve no idea what the rules actually say, and words are always subject to interpretation; but it looked perfectly clear to me. He won the ball from an onside position.

Mings should have done better then shouldn’t he? No argument there.
