It's not VAR itself at all. It's specifically English football ****ing this up.
Premier league/the referees/the FA all are ****ing clueless. Or are deliberately cheating.
Mike Dean already revealed the main issue with it, and that is the fact that the people accountable for checking are buddies with the people liable to be checked. Their default position will be to back up their mate on the pitch.
It's the equivalent of sending an OFSTED inspection into a school, composed of a mixture of former and current teachers at the school. It's that simple and that dumb.
Yes, there will always be human error even with the best technology at our fingertips. And yes, the fact that we have the same technology broadcast through to our living rooms means the level of scrutiny can't be put back in the box, but until the degree of impartiality is increased massively by removing anyone with a horse in the race (easily done by rotating UEFA refs across all countries who use VAR), these problems will persist.
