Only until you realise that Tierney was on VAR...one of the worst refs around and that is some feat considering the dross that's out there

Thing is…I’ve never heard anyone say

“ohh it’s so n so reffing today, he’s a good un”

everyone(including myself) thinks all the refs are **** every week…so does it matter who’s on VAR or on the pitch?

I never bother looking at who the ref is

I can’t even match the names to faces no lie

I dont know who these ****s are

I'd guess so mate, I think the best support I've known in my time is Sunderland with 30k attendances, but they only went as low as the third tier. Anyway just for the record of it, the best crowd I've ever seen at Priestfield is 13.5k which isn't even touching it versus Crystal Palace as a boxing day fixture many moons ago.

37 000 at Selhurst park, Palace v Millwall, div 4 1960

I looked it up<diva>

You will never see a good ref mate, fans always know the rules so much better <laugh>

Think that cos I'm lucky enough to go to some games I get to recognise some names

who would you say is a good ref?

I remember Pierre Luigi Collina however you spell it

he had a good rep

He used to apply common sense on the pitch more than any other ref to my memory.

Nowadays they’re all a bit up their own arses it seems

Told Michael Oliver (Tonight's ref for Southampton) is the best out there but we don't get him because he supports us <laugh>

Collina was brilliant but also had a stare that said to players "do you wish to argue?"
I think most refs simply follow the actual rules of the game and are frightened of using their own opinion/discretion.
On the other hand we have supporters who think they know the rules better than refs are in no way biased <laugh>

One things for certain VAR needs re-doing completely. Needs a time limit on it of say 1 minute. If it needs any longer it's not clear and obvious.

They earn too much money, in the week they all work at the little "ref HQ" they have at the FA building. They train together and its gotta be a big circle jerk, slagging off the players and the fans, chatting about how they're right about everything.

It will be a situation as simple as "they hate us and we hate them"

Just Googled it

Referees new to the Premier League will earn a base salary of £70k, whereas Anthony Taylor will be earning more £100k+ a year. They also get a £1.5k as a match game bonus so this every time they do a game. Assistant referees earn £30k a year and they also pick up £850 a match.

Well it's not over until the fat lady sings ... but it does rather feel like she is gargling with mouthwash prior to her final encore ... just can't see how we won't concede against the likes of Newcastle and Liverpool... :(

Which, considering the money around football, is absolutely peanuts.
Players making as many mistakes every week, looking very dis interested and possibly running less distance earn anything from 70 times upward of that every week and get far less scrutiny.

Assistant Refs don't do that much these days do they? Every offside decision is checked by VAR anyway.

I'd happily scrap VAR and give the Assistant refs a payrise so they can start making all the decisions again, cos even when they got it wrong the game was far, far better than it is now. It takes ****ing 3-4 minutes sometimes for VAR to come to a conclusion.
