Things are not good at the moment, I don't see him bending or being swayed by fans pressure.

If he is still about in the summer then I think we will see changes. Stones will be cashed in on as he hasn't been offered/look likely to sign a new deal.

Lukaku will possibly look to leave and Howard will be MLs bound.

So a GK, CB and a Striker will be needed and a fight to keep Gerry here and happy.

That's also to add to what we currently need which is a GK and a striker

I hope you're wrong over his view on his stubbornness re: Howard, but I agree about Stones and Lukaku.

The joint fee will provide the manager with the largest transfer pot we've ever had. The question should be do we want Martinez to be the one who spends it?

Let's be honest, apart from Kone his actual signings have been good.

Lukaku, Galloway, McCarthy, Gerry, Besic, Cleverly, Mori. Will also be interested to see how some of the other lower value players progress along with his willingness to promote players from within, Pennington being the most recent

Yeah I suppose he's done well so far in that regard.

However, I wonder if he'll still be in a job come May.

As you said yesterday, our season could effectively end on Weds night. The LC has made us slightly more comfortable with our league position, but the reality of the piss poor showing will be front and centre if we don't make Wembley. It's a massive game for Martinez, as he'll come under pressure if we lose but could be a potential hero if we win.

Small margins in this game eh...

Very small.

His biggest mistake IMO was resting Jagielka. No player wants a rest

I get where you are coming from but i dislike this things take a downturn so immediately its "sack the manager" (yes i know You didn't say this) attitude when with Martinez you knew exactly what you would get when he became manager-though you have gone more direct to service Lukaku than Martinez normally has had his teams set up.
His biggest problem will be the huge amount of money up for grabs for each league place so a few pragmatic wins to move you up 3 places probably earns more than the total net earnings from winning league cup

Unless it's for a European spot I'm not fussed about league spots. LC completes the domestic set for us

oh as a fan i'm with you i just want to see my team (not yours obviously :bandit: ) winning things but does the club think like us ?
actually with Kenwright he might unlike ours but when it comes to it the bottom line is important just check out any transfer thread on the forum where posters are happily spending fortunes (the club hasn't got) on new players

That's the pl for you!

Most fans want the players linked by the press to clubs. How many had seen Shakiri play who sit round me? None as they had him as fast etc, the reality is that he had become fat and not very good. But they all claimed it was a massive error that he lost out to Stoke.........I doubt he was ever even interested in signing him

Martinez was never my choice. However, he did do well in his first season, but last season was a complete disaster.

I thought he had until the winter to show the first season wasn't just the result of him inheriting a good side that were were drilled defensively and adding some more panache to it. I thought we were doing quite well until just before Christmas, but the defensive frailties and his insistence of keeping the hapless Howard between the sticks are testing my patience at present.

I've been saying for months that he should bring in a defensive coach to work drilling the back line, and as every game passes I think this becomes even more glaringly obvious.

He's massively under performed with this squad as it stands today. A more pragmatic approach would have yielded a much higher league placing with the talent at our disposal. That doesn't mean that we should return to the tedium of a Moyes style, but merely improve our game management and work much harder on the training ground at our defensive drills.

Wednesday is a massive game for him, as there was serious discontent inside and outside of Goodison yesterday

obviously i don't pay the same attention to Everton as you but yep the decline in the defence is obvious even though you have individually good defenders so obviously an organisational fault. added to the attacking flair players- are those players doing enough defensively ?
At times it does seem you have become an inferior version of our 13/14 team :bandit:
seriously that wasn't a dig it's just you remind me of how we played under Rodgers that season where defending was left to 2 CB's an ageing CM who preferred attacking and 2 advanced FB's one of which didn't like breaking sweat i.e. a lack of pragmatism and whilst we all want attacking football you are willing to take the occasional boring 1-0 when required.

I know we played well and were 2 up but with 10 men we shouldn't be playing attacking footy for the remaining 65 mins we should have shut up shop when the 2nd went in sorry Martinez the responsibility lies at your brown shoes here son....

Shutting up shop would have required us to defend for too long with 10 men.

They never looked like opening us up and it was two great crosses that did for us.

Mirallas should shoulder the blame, he was on a booking and didn't need to dive in. He looked in good form, ref again cost us with a silly decision.

cheating **** shouldn;t dive then, should he. Don't blame the ref that your player tried to cheat to win a dangerous free kick.
