I knew it would happen because people were fed up of govt and voted with their hearts rather than their heads, as people up here always do because they can’t get over maggie thatcher, but now we’re going to see what a real ****show looks like unfortunately.

I'm a pensioner, with a Civil Service pension and two State pensions coming into the house. I have never had as much disposable income in my life and on top of that we were gifted £200 heating allowance. I was embarrassed to get it and I am happy that the government have now taken it from people like me and left those pensioners who need help with paying bills with the allowance.
That’s nice. My gran doesn’t have a private pension and has to survive on her state pension only. Unless they're means tested they get nothing. Do you want to set up a direct debit to her every month? Genuinely the most backward thing I’ve ever read, I’m fine on my pension so everyone must be

A not very competent contracts manager in a construction firm earn more
Saving lives or sitting round chatting to their mates or on their phones? How long does it take a the contracts manager to work his way up to the wage? He wouldn’t have been on that as an apprentice who’s being babysat.
It's not waffle though, I wish it was in a way. The black hole has been confirmed by the Office for Budget Responsibility, who were only made aware of it last week. They will be investigating what was being reported regarding departmental spending etc.
This could be very serious if there was any coverup or creative budgeting. Something like this throws all budget planning right out the window.
You do realise govt spending is online for all to see? How can the opposition not know how much is being spent? Sorry but there’s no way you can claim there’s a £20bn black hole then drop £3bn on foreign aid and over £11.5bn on pay rises to public sector/NHS mercenaries. Makes no sense whatsoever. They promised no tax rises and I’d be surprised if we don’t see them by the end of the year at this rate.

The intent of my post was to demonstrate how unfair the pension system is and people like me should not receive money we don't need and that money should be directed at those pensioners who do need support. But you’re not in the same situation as everyone? How many pensioners don’t qualify for benefits other than their state pension and will be worse off? It’s like me arguing that child benefit means nothing to me it’s only £140 a month or whatever so scrap it for everyone, single mothers don’t deserve it either.
Again you are misinterpreting what I posted. I never said I was in the same situation as everyone, you are being deliberately obtuse. Means testing is a way of deciding who needs extra support and those who do need it will get it, it isn't rocket science.
There’s millions of households who receive the payment, how will they manage to means test them all? How long will that take? Surely if it’s only available to those on benefits you’ll get more people putting in for PIP to ensure they get the payment, who’s going to check them? There’s already a backlog of 3 months for PIP referrals.
Seems like they've just gone gung ho with bribing the 7 million strong public sector and NHS workforce at the cost of pensioners. Well soon see how they put this plan into action at least!

I'm not particularly bothered how they do it, my only concern is that people recieve the support they need.

Yeah but if you actually read into it, it’s nonsense. They haven’t been left a black hole. There’s a commitment to spending that was public knowledge and labour are pretending they’ve just found out about it. The books are open for all to see, including the IFS who called them out on their bullshit - as have other parties.
Sorry but £50k basic before weekend hours and overtime is not a sensible wage for someone who’s learning their role. Realistically it’ll be well north of £60k. We don’t even have senior managers on that money looking after 400+ staff. Contracts managers won’t be on that unless they’re in London. They’ll be on nearly twice the median wage of the UK. More to the point they’re being rewarded for absolute failure for years.
Interesting choice of words. In what way are these junior doctors failing? Saving lives? Or do you not think they do that? I work for the NHS and see the pressures these people are under, if you think they have an easier job than your £50k contract manager, you live in a different one to the world I know

Genuine question mate, how did you find out you weren’t receiving it, a few of my mates have tried to have it stopped and they’ve said it’s a right hassle. They were told it’s easier to give everyone it than work it out individually.
I know that I will be above the threshold Rooch, because of my Civil Service pension.
I emailed my local MP when I reached state pension age and asked her how I could opt out and she replied that it was a blanket benefit and there was nothing in place for individuals to opt out.
