BIDMAS stands for Brackets, Indices, Division and Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction. All of these terms are fairly obvious except for 'Indices', which are just powers (eg 23 or 42 etc.) So the order you should do your calculations in is: Brackets. Indices. Division. Multiplication. Addition. Subtraction. Follow these rules of maths and you will understand why the answer was correct.

0.0245mm is equal to one imperial thou. That's my engineering background kicking in. We had an old lathe that was gauged in thou. That conversion is embedded in my skull.
I had that for well over a year and it wouldn't shift, I eventually found that swimming underwater and going under in the bath fixed it, loosened up the wax. I'm glad it did because it used to drive me mad.
