I wonder what the maths shows for world population growth V natural resourses supply over say the next 50 years ? Water, fuel, timber, food, animals etc etc...China just lifted the 2 kid max ban .

1 + 1 = 3, it doesn't add up. Or whatever the mathematical equivalent of "fukked" is. The future is bleak and very depressing for anyone's grandkids :(, let alone kids. The Human race was always doomed to failure though, (personal) greed is ingrained and those with any benevolent ambition will be tsunami'd by the billions without.

Anything else I can offer my cheery opinion on? <laugh>

The survival of the human race depends totally on our ability to escape this planet. If we haven't found a way in 4 billion years time the sun will become a red giant, expand and gobble up all the inner planets. Our end is likely to become way before that by over-population or excessive global warming or meteor strike or supervolcanic eruption etc etc

But our species is incredibly clever. Consider the dinosaurs who roamed the planet for millions of years and never even got as far as inventing the wheel. We went from the first powered flight to putting a man on the moon in just 66 years and that is an incredible achievement.

We need a major breakthrough in space travel. Our current means of travelling through space is just incredibly slow. And an expanding universe means everything is getting farther apart. I'm a firm believer that there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe but the distances involved in making 'contact' are just too vast. Someone, somewhere needs to 'break-out' and develop at such a rapid rate that they can escape before their home world is destroyed. It could be us...

Not "likely", definitely. Over population is imminent, inside the next 100 years, so my money's on that.

Yes, true. Also, we went from killing each other with sticks and rocks to slaughtering millions with bombs and organised genocide in not much longer than that. The dinosaurs only killed for food to survive! This is what is so sad. We can be amazingly creative and imaginative in such good ways, yet the innate nature of greed creates misery and suffering, constantly.

I totally agree with you that there is life on another planet(s), somewhere. Whether those life forms want us loose in space to ruin other worlds I'm not so sure <laugh>

Unless we evolve beyond greedy selfishness then it'll either be the US, the Chinese or the Russians that get out into space and no other nation. I just can't see the Human race coming together for the mutual benefit of all though, it's not in our genetic make up. Even if it were to happen, then it would be the select few (i.e. rich, politicians) who got away anyway.

One last thought... "our species is incredibly clever" - explain Gemma Collins' vast success then <laugh>
