Gazza is strikingly similar to ex Leeds player Albert Johanesson. Severely depressed and drank himself to death. He was found dead in a high rise tower block. I have a feeling that Gazza will end the same way.
Depression is an absolute killer of an illness - literally. You can have all the love and support around you, but ultimately it makes you feel worthless. Some people seek solace in drink to try to suppress those feelings and it's a vicious circle: the depression just gets worse. Gazza is mentally ill. He may have had help and support but it simply isn't working. Telling someone with depression to 'pull themselves together' sums up the ignorance some have with the illness. Whatever is going on in Gazza's head needs to be dealt with. The trouble is, I don't think it will ever be. Quite possibly the best English player I ever witnessed when he was at his best.
