Different styles of play. Davis is a lot more direct. Runs around like crazy, gets himself involved in everything.
Ramirez preferred more of a free role where he drifted about looking for open space and making himself a target for passes. People said he was lazy. I didn't think he was. We were bad that first year. and I think if anything Ramirez hurt his play by trying to help out too much and playing too far back which weren't his strengths.
At that point, a creative midfielder was a luxury player we couldn't afford. And then MP brought the press, and that definitely suited Davis more than Ramirez.
But now that our defense is solid, I would argue that would tilt the scales more towards Ramirez. We need a guy who can unlock defenses and Davis isn't it. Although who knows if Ramirez is it either, because the dude cannot stay healthy. After all this time, I feel like I would defend against accusations that Ramirez sucks. But I certainly can't argue that he's good, either. He's just an unknown player who might be good in the right system if he is healthy, but he is never healthy, and this still might not be the right system.
Bang on.
