Well, yes! Both extremely sad events. However, Markus was 20 years older and died of natural causes. Gary Speed was 42, apparently very fit, doing brilliantly with Wales, but took his own life. Other than the direct effect Markus's death had on Saints fans, there's no comparison.

There was meant to a minutes silence at Swansea but its turned into a minutes applause which I think is a better tribute

Such tragic news! Finding it hard to believe at the moment. How awful for his family and friends, I feel bad enough about it about it & I am just a fan! Gary Speed was such an excellent professional and was doing so well managing the Welsh national team. RIP Gary.

Poor, poor guy. What could have been that bad in his life to have led to him thinking that was the only way out? Tragic.

Thoughts go out to his family, can't understand how hard this must be for them.

    RIP Gary.

This puts all our feelings about yesterday's defeat into perspective. A true servant of football has left us in the prime of life. RIP

Tragic in so many ways. Hopefully this will lead to a much more open discussion of depression. If anyone is feeling depressed or suicidal hopefully they will realise how much so many people would miss that person (like with Speed) and that they should talk about their feelings to someone they feel comfortable with.

In cases like this, the people left behind always feel that they missed something, but sometimes there are no signs and few depressed people commit suicide (thank goodness).

Very sad the guy can be considered a premier league legend of his era along with people like Cantona , Giggs .Shearer. Sheringham. Le Tiss and the like. Think he was in the Blades team who we played on that last day survival thriller and i felt uneasy that he had the quality to ruin our day with his experience and presence he was a class act.Condolences to his family and loved ones in what seems a tragic end to a life that gave so much pleasure to the clubs he represented so well and to their fans and fans all over who love the game.
