When did Lineker ever refuse to work, Bure? He was suspended by the BBC pending an enquiry. His 'cronies' as you call them, withdrew their participation as they are entitled to do as free-lance presenters. None of them are BBC employees, so contractural obligations are limited either way. The Beeb bigwigs were too eager to jump to do the government's bidding and have paid the price for that.

He didn't say the government were involved in the decision. He said that the BBC were too keen to do what they imagined the government wanted them to do.

It's no coincidence that the BBC Chairman, who is a Tory party donor and who helped arrange a loan for Boris a week before he was appointed by Boris, and the Director General, who stood as a Tory candidate in Hammersmith and then became deputy chairman of the Hammersmith and Fulham Conservative Association, are those making the decisions. I live not far from Ipswich & the Government decided without consultation with the residents, Tom Hunt the local MP or the council that they would dump refugees that paid people smuggling gangs from France on boats on the town. The Best Western Hotel & the largest hotel in the town Novotel have been block booked indefinitely, hundreds more housed through private landlords in the town with the government paying all the utilities. All the staff at the hotels were let go and replaced , the local businesses that rely on footfall from the 100 plus guests at Novotel don't get the footfall of paying customers anymore, just loitering which scares off even more business. They are all men in their 20s mainly from Albania , they are given a hotel 3 meals a day and prepaid credit cards at our expense. When you go into the town centre these men , wearing tracksuits or skinny jeans brand new trainers and identical short haircuts which they must get every week . Gather in large groups, girls and women are being harassed and intimidated. On top of the enormous Roma community that legally moved into Ipswich & the Kurdish that dominate the St Matthews area, the town has completely changed it doesn't resemble an English town . Mainly barber shops & convenience stores. Most people that defend Gary on this thread don't even live in England anymore, they just like to feel morally superior too. Gary lives in a rich 90% plus white part of London he doesn't need to deal with our asylum seeking guests . Lot's of ordinary English families are dealing with their towns being used as dumping grounds & any questions or criticism is met with childish slurs & being compared to German fascists of the 1930s. These labels have lost their power as their main use is to shut down any sensible discussion regarding immigration, branding anyone with genuine concerns as a Nazi . I don't think most people have an issue with legal migration, i have neighbours that came from India to work for BT & the NHS , they need to apply for a work visa their kids go to school locally & if they choose to they can apply for indefinite residency here . It's the people that illegally enter the country & cost tax payers millions per day to feed & house , as well as bringing crime with them. Most of the convenience shops , barbers & car washers are fronts to launder money from organised crime. If he worked for Sky then paying customers could cancel their subscriptions or advertisers could pull funding . BBC licence fee holders have to pay or risk criminal action from the police if they boycott the BBC.

You are politicising something for which there is a much more plausible and straightforward explanation, namely that the BBC has a reputation to protect founded on their commitment to unbiased reporting. Maintaining that perception is fundamental, not only to the trust placed in the Corporation worldwide, but also to their status as the UK's public service broadcaster. That's why BBC contracts contain the impartiality clauses they do, which other freelance presenters respect and which Lineker has chosen to ignore, and why the BBC had no alternative but to take action. You can debate the wisdom of the particular action they took, but action of some sort they had to take.
In Europe any immigrant from Albania is sent straight back - the UK could do the same but can't be bothered to set up the system. Afghan refugees and refugees from places like Iraq who wish to stay in Europe are processed properly and quickly. The UK do not set up legal routes for these people and when, because of this, they have to rely on people smugglers to get here your Government want to treat them as criminals because they can't be bothered to set up a proper system and instead they want to send them to Rwanda with no right of return to the UK. The UK know that what they are proposing is against International Law and common decency but it stirs up the public to support them in an inhumane act and get them elected. Do people seriously believe that German people went from peacefully living with Jewish Communities in the 1920's to sending them to the Gas Chambers in the 1940's on a whim. It was because Hitler drip fed them a lot of hatred towards the Jews in the 1930's making out that they were somehow an inferior race and a drain on the economy. Your Government should set up proper systems to deal with refugees, who are fellow human beings, properly but they would rather spend the money on hotels in the knowledge that this will stir up local feelings against these people and improve their party in the polls. Can you explain why a genuine asylum seeker from Afghanistan or Iraq would need to leave France on a boat to come to England to be safe ? The UK & USA illegally invaded & bombed both countries with sexed up dossiers from Campbell about fictitious Weapons of mass destruction and Bin Laden hiding in caves . I wouldn't want to stay there either . Blair completely destabilised the region and murdered millions of people as well as displacing them from their homes. The strategy has worked. Instead of talking about working people having to go to foodbanks, or lack of goods in the supermarket, or ballooning energy costs which are forcing people to choose between heating and eating, or the endless succession of financial and sexual scandals involving our government, or the enquiry into Johnson's behaviour during the Covid period, or the government trying to make it more difficult for poor people to vote and gerrymandering the updated constituences, and so on and so on, here we are arguing about hotels being used to house immigrants. I agree with 1950. The government have no intention of trying to solve this problem through practical measures that might actually work because it is politically useful for them to keep the problem alive.

Agree completely with both 1950 and Gozo that the 'crisis' could be solved, or at least reduced if the processing centres were to be properly staffed and funded. In particular the Albanians coming here not as genuine refugees could be promptly dealt with and returned to Albania. Why aren't they? Instead the government declares that everybody arriving by boats will be denied access for life, even if they are genuine refugees under international law. The government could do it legally and decently but it refuses to do so for its own reasons.
All Albanians need to do is throw their passports in the sea & pretend to be from somewhere else , once they arrive there's an army of human rights lawyers that we pay to block deportations. The reason they don't stay in France is because they aren't given anything.

I have family members killed in the second World War my father was sent away as a 3 year old so he wouldn't get bombed by German planes . I have zero responsibility for the actions of the Germans and even less responsibility for what that immigration MP says . Her parents came from India in the 1960s perhaps they weren't effected by WW2
