I'm not too sure about this.Hooper has stated that he doesn't want to leave the club but how many times have we heard players saying this then leaving the following week?
If we don't sign him in this window then we will try in the Summer if we are already a premier league club by then.

Do you honestly believe Saints would be going to this much trouble if they hadn't had a tip-off from someone close to Hooper that he would be up for a move to us?

What he said today is just window dressing to keep Celtic fans happy and put all the blame on the board if the transfer happens.

That's very true.

So is every transfer started after a tip off from the player concerned or is this just a convenient argument for you to hang your hat on?

Don't talk drivel.

No offence to Southampton - nothing against them at all I just really do not see this at all, can't believe folk are even bothering to reply to ****ing nonsense stories like this <ok>

I've no doubt Hooper will be off in the near future to England, but it will be to an established EPL side for a lot more than £4m. Celtic will not sell their best player now with half the season left and in position to win the league & get in the CL, would he leave in the summer with CL football on offer? Doubt it, but maybe the following summer he will feel he has done all he can up here & move on ie in 18 months time.

We get it up here all the time. Same happened with Kayal, he was off to Bolton, Sunderland or whoever......week later he had signed an extension on his contract! In fact Hooper was reportedly in talks of extending his deal just before Christmas. He, like Ledley, Matthews, McCourt among others turned down moves in England to join us - for footballing reasons. If he was interested in money alone he would have joined a team down their when leaving Scunny.

In simple terms financially we are sound therefore we do not need to sell, he is key to us winning the league &therefore automatic qualification to the CL group stages therefore we don't want to sell.

Actually most players do have an agent and are contacted in the first place once the club have been notified of their interest. You would be very naive to think that players are not made aware of interest from other clubs just as you would be Naive to think that agents don't contact clubs to let them know of a players interest. Whatever the outcome of this, one thing is clear....whether you like it or not Saints have made an official approach.

Hence Hoopers statement that he doesn't want to go <ok>

Hopes and aspirations can sometimes lead to one trying to bring in better players. At least Southampton fc is able to try to boost these things by buying players etc with it's own money. Whether we are successful in getting Hooper or not it doesn't make us foolish or arrogant to try any more than it makes Celtic foolish or worse in refusing our offers.

Some of the younger saints fans need to wind their neck in a little. I saw my first saints game almost 40 years ago and Celtic have always been my favourite scottish team, mostly because I had their strip on subbuteo as a kid I think

Worked on the Lisbon coast for a couple of years in the 90's and the locals talk about the "lisbon lions" in reverential tones, every bar seemed to have a picture of that great team. However, am not a fan of the present scottish league or Neil Lennon (or Ally McCoist). Attitudes seem insular and football seems to be very kick and rush ie not a lot of skill - my opinion

As for Hooper, can't see it happening, the player seems happy where he is at the mo <ok> COYS

The only Lions in Lisbon are Sporting Lisbon and the Lions in the Zoo.

Been reading this thread over the last couple of days - have to say that this transfer would never happen unless Southampton offered daft money - way more than 4/6/8 million. Celtic are fortunate that we have no debt to speak of and have a young developing squad worth a bob or two (35 mil was a joke by the way). Have to say though on the whole SFC fans have been absolutely sound on this thread. One or two numpties can't resist the old mickey mouse league stuff but by and large most saints fans have been great. Hope you keep it going saints and get back to the premiership where you belong (I am of the age where MLT was a great in my eyes - genius - bet you his goals dvd is worth watching lol

A wee footnote - Scotland has the highest football attendances in europe in terms of per head of the poplace going to games - we've only got 5 million mind !

Anyway - best of luck for the season SFC

Jen, take your 'Bhoys' elsewhere, they're very irritating.

Venom (tough name), Saints a diddy team?
No phud, compared to selick we might be a diddy 'club', but team? No.

In fact if Saints played Celtic tomorrow you'd get a good gubbing. Celtic big club, Diddy team. <ok>

Fail Fail!

Aye, of course. We can go to Italy and draw with Udinese who were top of Serie A at the time. We can beat them at home. We can beat Rennes. But we'd get gubbed by Southampton <doh>

Anyway, the reason I came on is to say that (apparently) you're on the verge of putting in a new bid of £6m for Hooper. That makes things interesting.
