Massive risk and I'd have much rather we went for an exciting young English coach.
If true though, the truth is it could have been much worse.

I think there's a bigger risk with a young English coach. We're in a disposable society and it would take the boo boys days to get on the back of someone like Eddie Howe. For all your personal opinion is get Howe in, give him years, reality isn't the same and for many "fans" it would be seen as just picking up some bloke from the Championship. I mean, even McLaren with all his experience I would suggest wouldn't get the same level of freedom as a "glamorous" foreigner like Garde or Tuchel, BECAUSE he's English, not in spite of that fact.
That's not to say I don't agree with you - I personally felt McLaren would have been brilliant, best appointment we could have made. Outside of that, Garde is one of a dozen names that, as a Newcastle fan, you have to be happy with.
I can't have that. I think the risk is greater with a foreign coach. We all saw how quickly fans turned on the French players when things weren't so good. We went from folk turning up in berets (which to be fair was largely a bit of fun), to them calling them weak willed non triers.
Fans don't really care what nationality a coach is. At Newcastle they will jump all over them whether they are English, French or ****ing *****lian.
The risk factors for me are the knowledge of the game here, the ability to work under certain restrictions, an ability to supply the kind of football fans want to watch, experience of dealing with high pressure situations. If we took Garde and Howe as examples, I think Howe ticks more boxes.
Garde played a very small amount of football here. He was here for long enough to learn about the game but in terms of knowing the game here, obviously Howe has a greater knowledge. In terms of working at a big club then Garde has been at Lyon so he has the edge there. Both can supply the type of football that fans want to watch. In terms of working with meagre budgets and under restrictions, then Howe would obviously have the edge there. High pressure situations, neither has really had that in their career. Garde did well initially in 2011. Then PSG had an influx of capital which meant he was never going to find it easy in thereafter. Their fans understood this. Howe has done well at Bournemouth and ok at Burnley.
Eddie Howe could simply be good for Bournemouth, the one club guy who might be more suited at a club of that size. He doesn't know the Premier League either and could easily be a disaster for us.
Paul Tisdale was mentioned, he's performed minor miracles at Exeter, but is he right for the club?
Put it this way chaps... Garde or Carver?
If anyone would say Carver I would fear they may need to be sectioned immediately.

In that case, again McClaren or De Boer.Carver till summer then one of those two. That's not really the choice though, is it ?
The real choice is: Garde for at least 18 months or Carver for 4 months and then the best person available in the summer.
Less easy than a straight Garde vs Carver choice. The season is already over except for avoiding relegation. We have a 10 point lead over the relegation zone. Do we want to take the best person available now or wait until there is a broader selection ?
