Gallowgate or Leazes?

Had a debate with my mate I claimed the leazes end (where geordies never end) is and always will be NUFCs main end, he claimed the Gallowgate. Surely all geordies dreamt of scoring in front of the leazes?

Also why do we attack the leazes in first half now used to be the other way around.

Anyhoo just thought I would share while Im trying desperatley to look sober at graft.

Afraid it's the Gallowgate for me.
 
my first game (with my Dad) was in the Gallowgate End 1969
my first game unaccompanied was in the Leazes End (singing end) 1973

since then I've moved around quite a few times due to ground re-developement and away supporters being allocated certain areas
but finally got back to the Leazes End when the gound was redeveloped to what it is now.

My ST has always been for the GG end, but I've sat in all areas of the ground for friendlies and the like and I much prefer the GG end to all other areas.

I've sat in nearly all the seats in the ground and still prefer the seat that I have now
down near the front where you can hear every mutterance
 
I'm currently a ST holder with my daughter in L7 of the Milburn but for cup games I always choose the Gallowgate.
I've been in all other parts of the ground over the years though.
 
Defo the Gallowgate for me. Certainly its been the most famous down the years. Listen to someone like Shearer who always talked of the extra love of scoring at the Gallowgate end. I'm biased as I did all my standing in the Gallowgate until they started to redevelop the ground. I then moved to the Milburn Paddocks as I liked standing and it was the last to go. Sit in the Milburn now when I do go.

Was the Leazes not where they housed the away fans too at one stage?

Aye but they also housed them in the Gallowgate at times.

Always the Leazes for me dating back from 69. Mind I have stood in the Gallowgate for years as well (the corner) and by the floodlight. **** me floodlights lol. remember someone climbingup one at Huddersfield everyonecheering untill he started to piss

I remember the odd piss always running down the Gallowgate and pooling at the bottom. The bogs out the back were ****ing awful mind. Strangely when I moved to the paddocks so I could still stand, it never seemed to happen. I loved the Gallowgate and The Paddocks. I think I just loved standing. Those cold nights with the whole stand jumping up and down to keep warm as much as anything else. There was a real feeling togetherness too, if some one hit the deck for whatever reason, a small pocket would open while they were pulled to their feet. Its the craic I miss more than anything, it just isn't the same now. People are too afraid to really say much. Then there was always a comedian on hand (usually some 20 odd stone giant bellowing from the back).

Does it not slope towards the Gallowgate too, adding to the 'sucking it into the net' comments.

if safe standing is brought in where would it be?

Lower level or level 7?

I know I would be well pissed off if they threatened to move me

Who would go for it, I would not too old and like my seat now.
 
Loved standing in the Paddock near the corner. I remember one game against Man City, there was a group of about 150 lf them in the middle of the Gallowgate early on. About 2.30 they got charged and ran into the corner. Another half an hour the got chased out of the corner and tried to get into the Paddock where a rowdy mob of folk were waiting for them. They stood on the pitch just before kick off looking at the police as if to say, "Where the hell can we go?"

Everywhere was dodgy for away fans in the 70's and 80's. Can you remember the spray paint on the wall behind the corner saying "welcome to death alley".

I don't think the powers that be here would go for it. To be honest this is a hot topic at present, but I can only see clubs who maybe don't get anywhere near their capacity on a regular basis going for it.

<laugh> You couldn't beat the banter then. I'm sure I read somewhere that the PC brigade felt Tommy Steele's Little White Bull is now considered a racist song. The world is ****ed.

tommy little white bull is still alive and kicking I saw him selling newspapers when I came back from Bruge.

Poor bastard was treated like ****e. We went to Norwich and got him bollocky and left him to roams streets. he was always in the Clock also AS who hoyed the petrol bomb

I was there, but I can't remember Tommy being in that paddock, he always used to be in the Gallowgate
 
I was over in Munich early December with all the family and me and my son decided to avoid going around the Christmas market yet again by going to a Bayern Munich game.It wasn't quite a sell out but still about 65000+ there.We were sat behind one of the goals and in front and below us standing was allowed.What an atmosphere.Massive flags being waved,drums going non-stop,continuous chanting( no idea of what) and a "compare" before the game,complete with microphone standing in the centre circle who really knew how to "work" the crowd.As the goals went in the scorers' christian name was announced over the speakers and the home crowd chanted his surname....Drinks taken back to our seats and not a hint of trouble.....brilliant,give it a go if you get the chance.So if standing (limited) works at top clubs with a big crowd in Germany why not here?
