When was it put on? I always thought it would’ve been 66 for the World Cup. But a post on Facebook said 64. Thinking about it, you’d need a good break in football to do it so 66 would’ve been no good so did it get done in 64 or 65?

Can’t remember if it was done to upgrade the ground to have more chance of getting games or the work was done after being given the World Cup games but it was either 64 or 65 but think it was put up in the summer between those two seasons.
Mind speaking of upgrading the stadium didn’t happen to the Ayresome Park sh1t hole and they still held games there.

I eas heartbroken when we left, but the old girl had seen better days and was finished once they chopped the top half of the Roker end off. It was never the same afterwards. Stadium of Light is a massive upgrade.
Aye, I was devastated to leave personally. So many memories that I never thought could be replicated. I used to love the area, walking to the ground, particulalry on a night game with those floodlights, clunky turnstiles, little bookies cabin, up the steps and there was this green carpet and a sea of bodies. Magical. Then I went to the Ajax game, walked up some steps and had my breath taken away. I knew we had made the right choice, but I will never forget Roker.
