I've no idea lads. Just didn't like backing Abseil at 7/2 when he only just won last year off a few pounds lighter.
I'm glad you posted this PN - I had been dithering over this one myself! I know money doesn't guarantee success but 5 mill is a lot to chuck at a yearling even for arabs. Won very convincingly on her debut, but inexplicably poorly next time out. A close up second on her return when supposedly in season seems to indicate that Fabre - who isn't a bad judge - thinks she is up to this. Each way looks a good bet. Fabio: re that Jack's double of Naylor in the Oaks and Hobbs in the Derby - hope it doesn't pay Jack sh1t! I'm very keen on the chances of Gratzie in the 3-45 Investec Mile. Turning into a bit of an Epsom specialist, she'll do for me
Just about to head off to Epsom looking forward to a great day's racing, reading all your tips avidly
If it were not for the Derby and the Oaks, Epsom Downs would be a housing estate by now. I rarely venture beyond three races a season at Epsom and my interest in the place will be over again for another year by 5pm Saturday. The going is reported as Good (Good to Soft in places) currently with the possibilities of a shower today. Will the otherwise warm weather make the course a bit sticky? Michael Stoute won the Oaks with the relatively unexposed Aliysa and Crystal Zvezda has a similar profile. John Gosden won last year’s renewal with Taghrooda and Jazzi Top has followed the same route but there are question marks about whether she will stay. It would be no surprise to see either win if they turned out to be top drawer fillies. I cannot see the race being run to suit the top-rated favourite Legatissimo, so I am going to stick with the form pick TOGETHER FOREVER, who should reverse York placings with Star Of Seville and has clearly been trained with this race in mind.
Oaks favourite LEGATISSIMO has been pushed out to 4/1 with B365. That's some price for the class act in the field. I'm on
Afternoon all.To hungover for write ups, fancy a few favs today Downpatrick 6.45-Broughtons Bandit 7.20-Edemyi 7.55-Sand Artist-Main wager today Epsom 2.00-Odeliz 3.45-Abseil 4.30-Jack Naylor
I'm with Princess - absolutely loving the pedigree of Al Naamah as it just screams Epsom winner. That said Legatissimo does look a class act. Good luck all.
Legatissimo looked brilliant in the 1000. Just watched it again and thought she ate up the turf after Manning had basically won the race on the Godolphin runner. There's no way he'd have expected to have lost when he broke clear a furlong out. With none of the field looking top class and Legatissimo already running a cracking race this year, i can see why she should be a strong fav. 4/1 as Beefy mentioned is a big old price for her to stay the extra trip. Competitive race though and i think she'll have to stay quite well because the other improving fillies in the event will run all the way to the finish. Crystal Zvezda in particular. I'd have wanted Together Forever to win the Ribblesdale LTO to back her in this even giving the 4lbs away to Star of Seville. I've not had a bet in the race yet but if I do i think i'll back Legatissimo and have a saver on Al Naamah. The French raider purely because Fabre doesn't mess about with the English Classics unless he's working with something fairly serious.
Al Naamah 14/1 Perused the Oaks card for a long time today and keep coming back to the French one. Legatissimo won the Guineas well but I am not entirely sure about the authority given what a complete non-stayer the 3rd horse was. Anyway, Legatissimo will love the trip today so there will be no excuses- I just don't fancy the horse and just wonder if it was really a good Guineas. This French filly, a full sister to 2012 winner WAS, has been doing well to show any form over 7f in France and it was a satisfactory reappearance when touched off over the 10f. She is obviously bred for the trip, will improve again (just 4th start), has experienced the track at Breakfast with the stars event, and Fabre doesn't come here for the fun of it. He described her as big and backward but that to me tells you the improvement that could come and for me that's what makes this a bet- the potential is there for this one to go one better than the rest, who I reckon are all closely matched with each-other (Together Forever/Star Of Seville closely matched with Legatissimo on a line through Lucida) so I can just see the left-field Frenchie causing a stir.
Not sure who does win so much but very much against the favourite as I don't think she will possess the finish necessary after travelling 4 furlongs further than the 1000 Guineas, I also feel the Stoute horse is unlikely to be a world beater as Ryan Moore would be riding it if so. I have narrowed it down to Star of Seville, Forever Together and Lady of Dubai, probably in that order.
Nice tip from the trainer re Tullius in the next. He may not handle the track and he's a bit tubby. Pile on then lads!
Yep, think I'll have a bet e/w on Together Forever in the Oaks (16:30). Looks like a damn good fillies classic to me.
Only just realised Jamie Spencer is on Zugzwang. Wouldn't have put it on if id realised, my confidence in this horse has now dropped significantly!
