Another winner in Japan for freshman sire Frankel

HOT on the heels of Eminent winning on his debut at Newmarket on Thursday, Frankel was represented by his 14th individual winner on Saturday when his daughter Mi Suerte ran out an impressive winner of a maiden at Hanshin in Japan on her first start.

The filly, trained by Yasutoshi Ikee and ridden by Yuga Kawafa, was settled in the middle of the pack in the early stages of the race. As the field hit the home straight, the juvenile was cruising under her jockey and pulled clear to win by two lengths.

She is owned by Sunday Racing, whose colours are most famoulsy associated with six-time Grade 1 hero Orfevre.

Bred by Northern Farm, Mi Suerte is the third foal out of the Grade 1-winning Pulpit mate Mi Sueno. Further back it is the family of Grade 1 scorers Madcap Escapade and Dubai Escapade.

Katsumi Yoshida, who owns Northern Farm, purchased Mi Sueno for $1.9 million at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November Sale in 2013.

Mi Suerte is not the first of Frankel's progeny to be successful in Japan, that honour falls to Shadai Farm's homebred Soul Stirring who won on her debut at Sapporo in July.

The dual world champion, an eight-year-old son of Galileo, has made a fantastic start to his career at stud supplying the likes of Group 2 heroine Queen Kindly and Group 3 scorers Toulifaut and Fair Eva from his first crop of two-year-olds.

There could be a first Group 1 winner for the Banstead Manor Stud resident on Saturday if Queen Kindly lands the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket.
 
A disappointing run from Queen Kindly, though she may have had her throat cut by trying to keep up with LA.

We'll have to wait a while longer for the first G1 winner, though something tells me it won't be too long a wait!

Meanwhile Martyn Meade has suggested EMINENT is likely to be put away now for a 3yo campaign rather than take up his Racing Post Trophy engagement.

Richard Fahey admits to being baffled by Queen Kindly's under-par display in the Connolly's Red Mills Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket.

The Malton handler is hoping the Lowther Stakes winner simply had an off-day when finishing a well-beaten fourth, beaten six lengths by the 25-1 winner Brave Anna, in the Group One over six furlongs.

The daughter of Frankel had only been half a length adrift of the same filly in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot and she had beaten Cheveley Park runner-up Roly Poly in the Group Two at York last month.

Fahey said: "She seems fine - she's eaten up and she's trotted up well.

"There are no problems with her at all. For whatever reason, she didn't fire.

"It looks like she might just have had an off-day - I'm hoping so, but I haven't given up faith in her.

"She'll be finished for the year now and we'll just play it by ear."
 
You have to remember it's Richard Fahey talking too lads <ok> Queen Kindly is a lovely horse. Just because she's a Frankel doesn't mean she's untouchable. She's as vulnerable as they all are.

Oh absolutely, I'm just a bit bemused by some comments that the Frankel's have been disappointing - a G2 winner, 2 G3 winners and a Listed winner (plus a few Listed placed horses) is great going for a first season sire, neither Galileo or Sea the Stars managed the same with their first 2yos <wink>

The only people who think his start has been disappointing are the mugs that think every one of his offspring will be a reincarnation of him.

He's doing mighty fine!

What we've seen has been fantastic. Winners to Runners must be a record. If there's any disappointment it's that we've seen so few, but that's hopefully more a reflection of the mares than him.

I actually didn't realise people thought that, I think they are all doing excellent and that seems to be the consensus from people near me as well. It's been a pretty good start. Long may it continue.
 
The comments I've seen are predominantly from armchair jockeys/trolls on social media. The Racing Post Facebook page is particularly bad, I even saw one comment that a Frankel couldn't be any good as a stallion because he hadn't sired a Derby winner yet!

OVERVIEW was taken out if her engagement at Maison-Laffitte today, the race was won by GOLD LUCK a half-sister to GOLDIKOVA.

They're obviously keen to get another run into KHATTAR as he's also been given entries at Brighton on Tuesdsy and Nottingham on Wednesday.
