I notice a few dead foals (and one died). Must be heart breaking for the breeders. Can't imagine how we would take that.

Does "No return" mean the stud fee is lost?

“No Return” just means that the paperwork hasn’t been filed yet. Sometimes people just don’t bother filing to let Weatherbys know that there is no foal and sometimes it is because the mare has been sent abroad so the paperwork has to be filed through that country’s Stud Book before it is passed to Weatherbys.

Thanks Princess. I thought maybe it meant that if the mare didn't take/carry the foal the stud fee was not returnable. Although I can't imagine why anyone would accept such terms

If the mare doesn’t take they’re listed as “barren”.

Pregnancy losses are listed as “early abortion”, “slipped foal” or “dead foal” depending on what point in the pregnancy they are lost.

The majority of fees these day are on Live Foal basis, meaning only payable if a living foal is produced.

That's what I would have thought. How is live foal defined exactly? Does it have to survive a certain length of time for it to be deemed a "live foal". In other words, if it died soon after birth would the stud fee be lost?

In the USA it is defined as “stands and nurses” but I think the general consensus here is that the foal lives at least 48 hours without any obvious issues.

EAST did herself proud tonight, beaten by an exceptional horse.

Can’t wait to see the offspring from Estimate. Oh and Hello folks, taken almost a month to get signed into the group. Cleared out junk and forgot to save the passwords . Still, lots of catch up reading over my coffee this morning.

"..swift move to lead over 2f out...... rider waving whip in celebration last 100yds". Whether a Frankel/Cracksman fan or not, that was super impressive

Such a lovely horse. I love a strong powerful looking horse that covers the ground like he does. Probably the most underestimated horse around. I may be wrong but the dam side hadn't produced much prior to Cracksman, having gone to Dalakhani (twice), Sea The Stars and New Approach. So that says something. If he stands for 30k that seems a bit of an insult for a horse with his conformation and power. The pedigree on the dam side isn't the best so that would keep down the price tag

I am the biggest Enable fan around and some here may recall me confidently hailing her as last year's Arc winner when she was 20/1. Also delighted that I saw her in the flesh on that Arc day and what an impressive individual she is. But, I always said that, as a 4yo, Cracksman would be her biggest competition and I think I chose him (last year) for this year's Arc. I still think this could well have been his year for the Arc, especially as Enable wasn't at her best.

What a pair to have in the stable at the same time. So fitting that Frankel and Nathaniel should produce two stars

“He’s gliding along, or is he” “he’s pulling away, or is he”. Even back then the tv commentators had a problem making their mind up about Cracksman . Wonderful, thanks for posting that race, I’d forgotten how dithery the race caller was.

Just like last year, CRACKSMAN was awesome, hats off to JG for getting him back to his best for his last race, easily Frankels’ best offspring to date.

Enjoy your retirement, you’ve deserved it.

My 7yo granddaughter, who’s never shown interest, just said “wow nanny” as Cracksman came off the bend. Had to rewind for her to watch again. Mind you Nanny was screaming like a nut job as Frankie threw the reins at him .
