I'm more thinking about the kids who live in Boldon, Jarrow, Hebburn, Ex mining Villages in Northumberland, South west Durham..areas where we would normally get a decent fan base from and those fans who would actually pay money to watch us. I think we could be at risk at losing a good percentage of these fans as we did in the early 90's. But lets see, Something may happen at SAFC, we certainly have a stronger core support than in this days and the Mags takeover may be blocked...lots could happen

Exactly. I’ll refer you back to my post about mismanaged for generations. The club still have this ‘little Sunderland’ mindset. The mags on the other hand ‘got it’. They made sure they got their club recognised. They made sure that they were the team that was identified with the North east. They made sure that the rest of the world knew where Newcastle was. They cemented all of that on the playing field over a number of years. Be honest, they played football worth watching. What did we do? Appoint Mick Buxton and Terry Butcher. I’m sure he’s a lovely bloke, but Mick ****ing Buxton ffs.
I live on the other side of the world. When I’m asked where I come from or which team I support I say Sunderland (of course), yet I still get quizzical looks. I then generally say “have you heard of Newcastle” and go on to explain the geography and the recognition is obvious.
And over the last 70 years where chairmen were more interested in looking the big shot rather actually being one and trying to build something tangible and sustainable, they let our great club, where legends once were forged become a by-word for failure and mediocrity.

What I was implying was the fact we are still stuck in League One with a very bleak outlook and referred to the Mags splashing millions on players as a breaking point for quite a few people, what I have read on here and more so over the road is what I am alluding to when I made the assumption.

It won’t stop me however, I enjoy the banter and meeting up with my old Army mates at away games, had a cracking weekend in Blackpool 6 weeks ago, with no football to spoil it.

I didn’t miss your point at all Flanders, nor did I quote your post or reply to it, in fact I completely agree with your point.

I said much the same thing in the early 90’s when we missed out on onset of the Premier League. I guessed it would be 20 years before we caught up with Newcastle both in turnover and fan base. You just had to drive through the former Sunderland heartlands and see the kids in black and white shirts to see the damage inflicted by being a second tier club for the first few years of the Premier League.

My point was simpler, having read various comments on social media from adults who were obviously spitting their dummies out because of the reported changes in fortune of our nearest and dearest.

I will repeat my point, I don't understand spitting the dummy out because someone has got something that I haven't, it is very childish.

I don't know if they are still going EJK, but there is/was a Sunderland AFC supporters club in Perth WA. Here's a some pics of them up in Kings Park to tug at your heartstrings.

You should never ever refer to that place when telling anybody where Sunderland is :emoticon-0145-shake

If mentioning Durham doesn't work you should just say on the north east coast. Most people that I've spoken to on holiday abroad know anyway, and I've been surprised about how many know where 'Sheels is :emoticon-0105-wink:

I’m actually in those photos Monty. I’m the one wearing the red and white striped top.
But in seriousness I really am. This happened in 2008 iirc about two or three months after we emigrated. You in those photos as well?

'Near Scotland' works for me with Americans most of the time. A lot of people I talk to are engaged with sport though so they've heard the name at least.

Unfortunately not EJK, but my wife's sister is in two of them (holding the FTM flag on the left of the photo as you look at it).

Donald has taken advantage of the 3 month company accounts leeway, so we won't know the state of the club 'properly' until July.

Expected this sadly. It's definitely not a good indicator that all is great in there.

I’m stood very close to her then. As you look at that photo I’m the one wearing green shorts and sunglasses at the front and no hair! . Master EJK is stood right in front of me. He’s now 6’2” so towers above me. For some reason Mrs EJK is nowhere to be seen!!
