Just a quick article to debate next season's formation. I noticed that towards the end of last season NP was playing effectively a 5-3-2. It wasn't the same as when we couldn't play in that formation (I forget what came he tried it in, but it just didn't work).

He played:

Mannonne
Rosenior-Hobbs-Gerrard-Dawson
Chester
Garcia Evans Koren
Fryatt Simpson

In that formation Chester was dropping back into CB when defending or just breaking things up in a DM role. It would also allow the other 3 CM to push forward and help the strikers. If this is the formation that NP wants to play, then he clearly wants attacking full backs, hence the signing of Rosie & Dudgeon. So next seasons formation could be (with potential signings):

Mannonne
Rosenior-Ayala-Gerrard(Or any other rumoured CB)-Dudgeon
Chester
Danns - Evans - Koren
Fryatt - Big target man

What do you think? Have I gone and got it completely wrong?

Once we know the new signings, plus the loan signings, then we will be able to make educated guesses on possible formations. But until then, it will only be pie-in-the-sky.The permutations at the moment would be many-fold, but, maybe Twf'y could tell us what the number of permutations are, based on the players we know we will have after our leavers, that we know of, have gone!

Having attacking full backs gives you so many more options. I look forward to seeing Rosenior (touch wood he's still here) and Dudgeon bombing forward next season, hopefully producing some amazing overlap play with Stewart and another pacy winger. (drool smiley). Then we just need a tank in midfield, a pass sprayer and Fryatt and A N Other to tap in the easy finishes.

It's true, attacking full backs are the way forward. I'm still not comfortable with Evans being one of our 'best 11' if such a thing still exists.

How about going with
Manonne
Hobbs, Ayala, Chester (3 CB)
Rosenior (RWB) Dudgeon (LWB)
Harper Evans DCM)
Simpson (RWF) Stewart LWF)
Fryatt

Obviously based on the most likely signings? Koren for Stewart while he recover, then possibily for Simpson

More likely be 4-4-2 though

Rosenior Hobbs Ayala Chester Dudgeon

Ayala is good with the ball at his feet and can bring the ball out of defence and lay it off to more creative players in midfield. would also give us width as stated above with the 2 wingbacks bombing forward and putting in crosses.
