It's appears from the posts on social media from the players and backroom staff since the confirmation of his move that Fonte will be missed more in the dressing room and around the club that actually on the pitch?

He'll be missed by both. Think this is a big turning point for the club, and not in a good way.

We aren't a one man team...Jose has been here a long time and is bound to be missed personally and professionally, but I'm not expecting a cataclysm. I decided a while ago that this was going to be a so-so season (apart from winning the League Cup :)), but we can step up again next season if we get a good summer.

Can't see us bringing in someone of equal stature, both as a player and a leader. The off-pitch impact will be interesting.
I think Van Dijk will step up now. I would hope one of the more senior players will help him out.

See this is what I meant by my post. Some fans passion means they take a player leaving to heart way too much.

Players don't care that you get upset or annoyed when they leave. It is far easier and more healthy to be the same. I am not saying don't have a moan if you don't like something, bit we all know how the club is run under Kat by now. Maybe caring less about individual players is a good thing.

You been speaking to my other half Beefy? When I am pissed off with a Saints result (quite often recently), she always says "I don't know why you're upset, they don't care about you when you have a bad day at work" :)

But seeing as you have confidently predicted the imminent disintegration of the club at least once in each of the last 3 seasons, probably not such a big deal, eh?

Actually, no I haven't. If you can find evidence to back that up, please do. I was in favour of Cortese going, when most predicted the end of the club as a result. I was right behind the appointment of Koeman as well. I was upset about Adkins going, more about the way it happened more than who replaced him.

So, darling, please do get your facts right.

I will take this at face value and not a wind up. It's true, we have finished above you and enjoyed more good times than you over the last few years.

Bigger club? Not going to open that hornet's nest, but yes WHU are bigger. Bigger (free) stadium, wider fanbase, in London, history etc. However, we aren't some tinpot club to be fair.

Still I think a strange move for him. Seven good years here, potential to be a true legend, grew with us. Not annoyed at him, just think he has made a bad decision - not knocking WHU, but seems odd to have a sideways move at the end of his career.

You forget, they won the '66 World Cup singlehandedly.
