If I had the opportunity to play football for a living, in a stadium in front of 32,000 people, I would wake up every day and give thanks for my good fortune. And let the future take care of itself. Then maybe retrain at 35 and do something useful for the rest of my life.
I don't bare any ill will to Fonte. We don't know all the facts, all we know is he handed in a transfer request and saints let him go (unless i missed something). It is suspicious that he didn't play last few games but perhaps there is another explanation other than him refusing to play. He still gave us many years of service and we got a fair bit of money for him in the end so all is good as far as I'm concerned.
West Ham? ''Happy move as I have family in London who are West Ham fans'' reads only to me as ''I support Liverpool because they were the first team I completed in my Panini Sticker Album''. Well not quite as West Ham arent gonna win anything. Fonte wasnt the best CB in the team by some margin, he wasnt the best CB when we had Alderweireld, he wasnt the best CB when we had Lovren, he wasnt the best...ok I cant stretch that to Hooiveld, but still, we loved Fonte, and he's gone and done this. Feck him. Move on. Wanger.
If Fran can see the good and the bad in this particular player and see him go without a fit at the player or the club, surely all of us can. #emotionalsupportforfraninthesetestingtimes
We've done this already; we're not in a supermarket, or on Fifa, replacing like for like, but if you want to play that game, Austin was Pelle's replacement. Actually, I wouldn't have let Pelle go, but plenty of our fans would have driven him to the airport themselves, if you remember the criticisms he was getting this time last year Boufal and Redmond both have the potential to be game changers. Romeu>Vic Hojbjerg has shown plenty so far. We don't know about Pied yet.
The writing was on the wall when he wouldn't let us enjoy his success in the European Cup....he actually seemed surprised we wanted to. That proved he didn't really relate to what fans feel and what we felt for him as OUR player. He didn't make a Morgan-style turn around either, so we've had half a season to get used to the idea. As for him as a player....he would have been an asset to us as a leader and a CB, but we all knew he was entering the last goodnight. Not wanting him to have a hard time, but he won't have the goodwill he had earned here if he makes mistakes at West Ham. However, he may respond to the challenge....who knows? To quote SFC...We March On.
See this is what I meant by my post. Some fans passion means they take a player leaving to heart way too much. Players don't care that you get upset or annoyed when they leave. It is far easier and more healthy to be the same. I am not saying don't have a moan if you don't like something, but we all know how the club is run under Kat by now. Maybe caring less about individual players is a good thing.
