Good post cbk, but one thing, do you really think Reed has a say on team selection?

I've said this before, and I'll say it again ... THEY WERE PREPARED TO USE HIM. If it was some club policy, or an agreement with another club, they wouldn't have had him on the bench and risk him needing to come on at any point, thereby ruining the plan.
 
CBK's livened up and he's happy everybody else has too. All we need now is the return of Adkins and we'll all be happy for ever after ;)

In some circumstances, yes he does. I think there was some tit-for-tat stuff going on between Reed & Fonte and not playing him in Europe was one way of "showing him who's boss"

Still not sure not on that myself mate, would be a worry if true though for sure.

I'm still gutted he didn't play in any of the EL games though. He should have been leading us out.

I do recall Andrew Surman putting one in, when we told him he needed to go due to us crumbling financially. He did it to ensure that Saints, considering our predicament at the time, got the maximum amount from the sale. He was doing it to try and keep us afloat as long as possible.

I have heard in the past that Les Reed is FAR more influential than people think , but has this Teflon coat . Doubt he suffered when we went into admin .
 
So what's peoples thoughts? Refuse or let him go?

I'd refuse it personally, tell him to play until the Summer where we will take a lower fee opening up more clubs of choice to him.

Then the minute that deal is done, I'd be taking Virgil aside and saying "sorry Virgil, we can't be replacing both of you in the same window. You were happy enough to sign a 6 year deal, now we need another year out of you."
