Top bloke

From the prats who gave him stick in a supermarket, I give you one of the first names on the team sheet.

I didn't rate him last season but he's come on leeps and bounds.
It's interesting and a case of supporters jumping on a bandwagon and following blindly. He's never been that bad. I visit a lot of other teams boards, and I've made the point on here before about it, there's been quite a few opposition teams singled Flanagan out as solid at the back for us and one of our better players. I've then come on the Sunderland boards and folk are having a pop at him saying he's ****e.

I thought he never looked good enough after his first few games. He looked ok in his first few but, as time went on, him and Baldwin there was little between in the end. This season he’s a revelation. Whether it’s confidence, coaching, stability or a mix of the three, that’s not the same player we had last season
Not arguing he’s had some Mares but my point being it’s not always just down to the individual .. there’s always been a player somewhere in there .. I had more of an issue with others than him .. we couldn’t score we had no pace and nobody in midfield to offer up a pass at times …

Having the extra responsibility has maybe had a positive impact on his game, im sure he is one of the appointed players in the leadership group (I think that's the name for them).

Absolutely brilliant all season, keep it up Flanagan lad.

Totally agree regarding the extra responsibility. Likewise I believe the extra responsibility on Geads has had a negative impact on his game. Could flanners be a future captain?

I thought it was down to the individual though some of his performances were really bad and he had nightmare moments every few games like the playoffs against Lincoln last season when he tried to pass it back to Burge.
Full credit to him for working hard during the summer and cementing a first team place because i expected him to be 4th choice CB this season.

Oh mate I’m not arguing. Far from it as I completely agree. But I didn’t envisage such a turnaround in him.

I love been made to look a kunt i do it all the time on here and life in general. I lash out on things and its its been a big downfall in my life.
Getting back to Flanagan after all ive said about him i take it back massively
To be fair, the criticism of him was largely justified (don't agree with the personal abuse) as he was as inconsistent and error-prone as the rest of them. He is a totally different player this year and was outstanding again yesterday. I had Cirkin as my MOTM but Flanagan was excellent

I've never seen anyone say that, not even when he's been MOTM.

Confidence is a great weapon in any players armoury and Flanagan is playing with a lot of confidence, LJ has shown great faith in him and I think he is benefiting in being given the responsibility of helping Callum Doyle , they seem to compliment each other perfectly . Keep up the good work Flanno but less of the silly fouls leading to unnecessary yellow cards and missed games .

Other clubs boards on this site, I meant. The Charlton fans were very complimentary about him in particular the season that they were promoted.

let's face it, flanno caused a fair few heart rates to jump a fair few times...credit to him though and whoever has been working with him, he had a dodgy start in the first pre-season but noticably improved in following games, seems much more assertive on the pitch now, could be that he feels with the younger lads around him now that he needs to step up and act/play like the 'senior defender' at times but whatever the reason he certainly deserves his place currently...in fact it is damn hard to say who could improve the current first team as none are playing badly.
