Well, we're through and we only need a draw out in Istanbul to top the group, but that was another flat performance and our security was made to look silly, too.
Not great.
Good to see Stambouli opening his account and he had a good second half.
Soldado just looks like he's never going to get one.
0-0 would see Besiktas top, I believe.
Another average game with the same problems. Look at the chances we missed again, you can't do that with the way we defend. Equally, the final ball was not there often enough apart from when Lennon cut in off the left. And of course we're conceding chances still too.
I actually thought Chiriches and Vertonghen did alright at the back, the trouble is the midfield's still giving them cover and the fullbacks are just as prone to putting them in it. Paulinho was okay;, it was the first time I've seen him winning the ball and generally looked far more enthusiastic. Still missing some quality but there was a glimmer of hope for him. Stambouli was okay too, I think he needs someone like Mason or Bentaleb alongside him, with Dembele and Paulinho in midfield with him, we couldn't have been slower on the turn. Dembele was appalling, we know why he's always passing it backwards and sideways, anything going forward was given straight to the oppostition.
Lennon gets his own paragraph. Frankly he was dropped for a reason, too much dawdling and rarely creating anything. Tonight(and against Hull, to be fair) he was like a different player, creating several excellent chances cutting in off the left, it was more like the performance you see from a player in a great run of form than one that's been dropped and hardly had a kick since. I can't get over how good some of his passing was to feed players in the box, it's one of the things we've been missing with all our cutting inside. We still need to mix it up and offer more width at times though.
