We'd better get off to a decent start - most of the games at the top of the season look winnable. The end of the season looks rough though.I don't want to be a relegation match with Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and Man city in our last seven games.
Yeah I was hoping to do Everton last year but it being the 2nd of Jan ruined that for me. Really hoping I can get a ticket this season.
Didn't look at the fixture list in detail, but I see that we're playing against everyone home and away, which is very good.
Yeah, good point. No trains I don't think, threadbare tube and bus service. I might be able to drive and park at my mate's nearby - but he's a spurs fan. He might let my tires down if we win.
Every year I'm eager for us to get our business before the opening day (rather than 31 August). But probably never more so that this summer. We really could not have asked for a nicer opening 11 fixtures. Only one fixture against a side who finished above us last season (and of those potential 14 different options, at home to Man Utd is certainly not the hardest). And, in all likelihood, seven of those 11 at home (I would very much imagine that they'll simply swap the West Ham games around, thereby giving us those seven). Shout me down if you want, but quite simply we should be in the top four after 11 games. Only if four other sides have cracking starts themselves should we be outside. A two point average should be a minimum, but ideally I'd be looking for 25 or 26 points. As Leicester proved the season before last; as we proved in the Championship promotion season, once you get on a roll early, and confidence is flowing throughout the team, then wonderful things can happen. I'm not trying to imply a title charge, no way. But the only way of keeping our players is to get into the CL, and who knows, if we can get those 11 fixtures right then we might give ourselves a real chance. Especially whilst we have no European to distract, yet Chelsea and Liverpool do.
I agree we couldn't of asked for a better start, shame it's come this Summer in a way with so much to sort with takeover etc. A good start could really set us up for a great season. Conversely, we can't afford to be in the bottom half come the end of October...
It looks much like last season in terms of a nice start and a tough Christmas, let's hope we are well prepared and hit the ground running, it could be season defining as discussed above.
Or put in the Monday night club. Could happen v Swansea but more likely one of the promoted teams. If I recall 1966, our last game in the old Division 2 was against Manchester City, and the first game the very next season was against ..... Manchester City
