Carrabuh, you asked a question and then answered it yourself! What is the point of pre-season friendlies if you're not going to learn from them? That is precisely the point of them, learning formations and partnerships! Hughton, the coaches and the players will all have learned from those games, now the hard work begins on the training ground! Onwards and upwards, ever learning!
This is a good thread. White hats versus the Black ones. Jedi versus the Sith. To be fair to the guys with a less than good feeling about the new season, there hasn't been too much in the close season to make them feel any differently. The manager ups sticks to go to a club that finished below us in the league although that club would appear to have the potential to be a bigger club than us. Our talisman striker and fans favourite puts in for a transfer apparently not for more money but an extra year. We appoint Chris Hughton who immediately pops off to Florida for a couple of weeks. Things then turn around with Holt and some new signings and the mood becomes upbeat again. Then a string of less than impressive pre season friendlies and the feelings of impending doom resurface. Five days to go and we will find out the intentions of CH this season. Rigid 4-4-2 or fluid formations depending on the flow of each game? My gut feeling says we will be doing well to match last season. Some of last years strugglers appear to have spent money and the new boys haven't let the grass grow under their feet. A good start is imperative. to instill confidence and get the crowd going. And Luckily we have had the Olympics to take our minds off it but come Saturday its all on again.
Thats right they do have to learn, I fully accept and endorse experimentation more than anyone (or at least most), but that doesn't mean Hughton doesn't judge. If he doesn't judge, he might as well pick his starting 11 out of a hat.
You mis-understand, I mean we, the fans, shouldn't judge because this is CH's chance to look at things first hand, rather than trawling through hours of DVD's!
Why shouldn't we judge or give opinion? There is no reason not to. My point though is if thats how you feel then fine, but you can't then comment (following this belief) on the GOOD things about the pre-season. If you don't think we can judge, then don't judge anything. The people who don't follow this can just carry on like their opinions don't matter (which they don't).
Oh come on Dave, your hardly a bastion for going against the grain on these matters. You must have done. Surely.
I take your point about fans that boo don't necessarily have to be a part of football forums but they are the sort of fans that need no second invitation to do so! As for the blandness of our board until recently I tend to disagree. If the club has progressed, grown and improved year on year, watching better players producing quality football, playing against stronger competition in each of the last three seasons then surely something is going right and this, ultimately, should give rise to a generally positive mood. I have witnessed discussions on this board which are exactly that - people putting across their views but usually which allow for respect of fellow canary fans. With regards to fans of other teams then all's fair and all that! As far as I'm aware this isn't an old boys club with back slapping and secret handshakes. Say what you want. Respectful debate is fine. Still doesn't mean people are going to accept your opinion just because it is different. If the point you are making is that there isn't enough debate or that you think there is too much asslicking then man up and call out the offenders. That would make for some fun discussions in itself!
If not I've just been writing rubbish for the last half hour (not entirely out of character as most would agree). You must of done!!!!
Well, I can't comment for you but I think it has been better on here of late, people are writing more provocative stuff and projecting more interesting views for people to bounce off. Of course some members may boo, but not all, I haven't boo'ed since Colchester, but I bet some people on here who preach constant positivity boo'd at that same game and possibly since. I don't need to call anybody out, and I didn't call them asslickers (very crass). I'm just saying I think people were just agreeing for the sake of it. The amount of apologising that goes on prior to saying anything remotely bad is shocking I don't really care if people accept my opinion (although it is nice sometimes). I just like expressing it.
Completely agree mate But yeah, I've said is before myself! also agree this forum has definitely got better recently, people dare to disagree again.
Not sure how it came across earlier but my 10 wins / 10 draws remark wasn't meant as a negative. Prior to last seson kicking off, and to be fair for the first few weeks of red-card mania, I couldn't see where the points would come from to keep us up. The fixture list looked far too scary. But stay up we did. With room to spare. So I'm stiffening the upper lip and am trying to look forward to anoher exciting season. After all, who wants our life as supporters to be dull?
The thing is, say we win our first three games, there will be hordes of people saying all sorts about how they are right, us "so called fans" (a very popular phrase) were wrong and should never have doubted. This is total rubbish, the concerns are there because NO-ONE knows what we will be like, we don't know if we will be great or terrible but that shouldn't stop opinion. My view is that it seems the constant positivity isn't a true perspective because there are (I'm going by others here) clearly some issues still to be resolved before the season starts. Those that accept we have shown limitations and try and evaluate that I feel have a more balanced view, not a negative one.
Hughton in pre season lost 6 - 1 at Leyton Orient with Newcastle and then won the League with 102 points. He will keep up the good work though don't think you'll be as high as last season.
