First choice goalkeeper?

With Davis having been out of the picture for a couple of months, Boruc's attitude still under scrutiny following water-bottle gate, and Gazza's error today, none of them seem to be an outstanding candidate to make the #1 spot their own. You could certainly make a case for any of the three starting vs QPR. I do feel the most important thing is to pick one of the three now and stick with them for the rest of the season, barring an injury or dreadful loss of confidence or form.
Who would you choose?
 
Gazza makes one mistake and he should be dropped?. Davis has made loads of mistakes and deserved to get dropped, as for Boruc no thanx.
 
Boruc is certainly my choice as well. Anyone who was aware of him at his peak at Celtic would have to agree. People don't even realise he was nominated for the FIFPro World XI less than five years ago while playing in the SPL! He's looked overweight and seriously lacking match practice in the two games so far, but if and hopefully when he gets anywhere near his best again people will start to realise what a remarkable 'keeper we've somehow managed to sign. At 32, he's hopefully got another five years left in him. Give it a couple of months and he'll be in and around the top 5 goalkeepers in the league IMO.
 
I don't like to judge Kelv based on his performances against United, City and Arsenal. I think against more ordinary teams like Swansea he'd have kept his head.
 
There all fairly similar so should just stick with Gazza we badly need a settled back line, that can't have helped at all that we've changed the keeper 3 times already this season.

Didn't say he SHOULD be dropped, i'm saying that as he's come in and unfortunately made a costly mistake, there's certainly a debate to be had about who should start vs QPR. tbh I'm just curious to see who wins this poll, as opinion on the subject amongst fans seems to be pretty equally divided.
 
This is exactly where I question Adkins abililty to manage in the Premiership, I understand that Boruc has had an investigation into his behaviour over the Spurs game but surely this could not lead to him not playing in games where he would of been considered, it is an admirable principle but also a gamble.
He should publicly come out and say who his number 1 is, this will lead to some stability at least in that department.

I can't agree. Gazza is 20, which IMO is far too young for a top flight 'keeper. De Gea is the exception, but clearly destined for stardom. He didn't even break into Gillingham's first team until the back end of last season. I don't like getting on players backs and this isn't me being reactionary, but he's made one save (from Ki) in the last two games and was at fault for the goal today. I sympathise with him as I feel he is under huge amounts of pressure to succeed at such a young age. A few years down the line, I hope he can be a long term number one for us. But if you compare him to the other 19 Premier League starting 'keepers I can't think of one i wouldn't have over him in the short term. Boruc, who is eight years younger than Friedel, was one of five goalkeepers shortlisted for a World XI. He probably hasn't even peaked yet. Regardless of his attitude, I hope Nige picks him as he could be worth so many points this season.
 
I don't know what the fuss is about. Gazzaniga makes one mistake and suddenly he should be dropped. Yep, that'll do his confidence wonders.

All keepers make mistakes. Sometimes they get away with them, sometimes they don't. Gazzaniga has pretty much been there on merit. He'll learn from his experience. SKD has shown himself to be a little nervous in the PL, so far, and has made a couple of mistakes too. As an absolute shot stopper he's still great. As a distributor of the football, Gazzaniga wins hands down, even when considering his error against Swansea. So far, Boruc has shown himself to be, what Nigel calls, a wrong 'un. You don't lose your temper with fans, and make gestures, when you've only been at the club for 5 minutes. Whatever his ability, I think Nigel will be reluctant to rely on him.
 
Gazza for me. While his age is a concern from what I've seen of him he is fairly composed and mature considering his tender years. All keepers make mistakes, and I'm not a fan of changing your keeper for a mistake as it can ruin their confidence.

Boruc just doesn't seem to have the right mentality for a club in our situation (in a dog fight) comes across as someone who will lose their temper with the defenders and ruin their confidence even more.
 
Gazza for me , he has a presence about him and I like that in a keeper....chopping and changing does no good stick with him. Today's goal for Swansea should he have hoofed it up the park who knows, should have Yoshida dealt with it a bit better who knows , should the ball have gone back to the keeper in the first place who knows but it happened. Lets just move on and not let it spoil perhaps the best performance of the season so far.

He's done ok by and large, but today he looked a bit uncomfortable at times even before his error. I wouldn't say he's done enough wrong to be dropped though, but his youth and relatively poor command of English can't be helping the disorganisation we've had in defence this season.

On paper Boruc is by far the best keeper we have. It's fair to say we have not seen the best of him. He came into the side lacking a bit of fitness and sadly his attitude, which I questioned before we even signed him, has now let him down. If (and it's a fairly big if at this point) he can get back to somewhere near his best form and he is able to stay out of trouble, he is an automatic first pick.

Yes, I would agree on the points you make but, as the old saying goes, we have yet to play football on paper. Yes, if he was 100% fit, alert and his attitude was right, he'd be the first choice keeper. But clearly, he isn't.
 
Well it looks like Gazza is most peoples first choice, which is good.
