2012 & The day after tomorrow are the same film with different effects. Personally I prefer the effects in 2012.

2012 has far better scenes of destruction, which is what I go to see when I watch a disaster movie, the Yellowstone eruption was worth the price of admission alone. TDAT has that ridiculous scene where they get chased through the library by the 'evil' cold, killed the movie for me.
