All fine and dandy for ****s backed by Arab states to take the piss, but smaller clubs still getting sanctioned by UEFA...

Sporting Lisbon were crowned Portuguese champions in May for the first time since 2002
Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon are one of eight clubs who have been sanctioned by Uefa for Financial Fair Play (FFP) breaches.

Sporting have been fined 250,000 euros (£213,694), while league rivals Porto were fined 300,000 euros (£256,462).

They have until 31 January 2022 to pay the overdue amounts otherwise face a ban from Uefa competitions.

Sporting have qualified for the knockout stage of this season's Champions League.

The other six clubs sanctioned are Spain's Real Betis, Astana of Kazakhstan, Romania's CFR Cluj, CSKA Sofia of Bulgaria, Gibraltar's Mons Calpe and Portugal's Santa Clara.

Uefa said all eight clubs were sanctioned due to their "non-compliance with the 'no overdue payables' requirement".

A statement from European football's governing body warned they faced additional punishment if they did not pay the overdue amounts.

"A conditional exclusion from participating in the next Uefa club competition for which they would otherwise qualify in the next three seasons... unless they can prove by 31 January 2022 that they have paid the outstanding overdue amounts," added the statement

Utterly pathetic as usual.

Bristol City made a loss of £44m in 2021 accounts, reduced to £36m when player sales taken into account....... They have lost £412k a week, every week for the last 10 years from day to day trading  Wages £212 for every £100 of income, staff numbers dropped from 797 to 562 but players increased from 83 to 97......

Not explained how this affects FFP but must now be borderline given previous years losses.......

Brentford's accounts submitted to June 2021 show that since 2013 they have made cumulative trading losses of £197m, however they have made a profit on player sales of £141m in the same period........ losses for 2021 were £53m, with wages £270 for every £100 income........ total wages £41m include £12m promotion bonuses........

Still reliant on owner putting in £1m a week......... but they do have a nice shiny new stadium, so that's ok then.........

Bump.....

You may have read a few weeks ago that Stoke in the last 2 years posted loses of £150m...... Their accounts are filed as part of the Bet365 empire and only went as far as 31st March 21...... Well in a further development it has now come to light that the Football Club has sold the ground to Bet365 parent company for £70.25m on 28th May 2021, just 3 days before most Football Clubs have their financial year end on 31st May and a month before the EFL changed the rules to prevent such transactions.........

They are going down the Derby route and who knew that Stoke was such a high priced property area, although I'm sure there are some desirable areas around there.....

Stoke are the next club in trouble......

It’s all taking the pi$$ out of the useless spineless EFL. These clubs are just laughing at them as they bend and twist the rules.
We made our ****-ups and paid the price but at least we are doing something about it now. All a bit galling that these clubs are getting away with it though.

Interesting thread showing how Stoke with the backing of Bet365 play the fiddle to the nth degree...

Creating a massive headache for themselves down the line. We might not be overly optimistic about the team at the moment, but the accounts from other clubs, like this, give us good cause to be optimistic about the club overall. We've already taken our medicine and are the better for it.

Was the first half of this season the spoonful of sugar that helps the medicine go down?

Is there anywhere you don't consider to be a ****hole? <laugh>

Have you been to some of these places? I'm fortunate to travel all over the place for work, and a lot of the cities in the north of England are a disgrace - Blackburn, Preston, Bradford, Stoke, Liverpool to name a few are all very depressing. I'm sure there's some nice places around there, but working in run-down city centres leaves a lasting impression.....however, I'm currently sat on a ferry on my way to Stornoway, and that certainly isn't a ****hole....this was the view from one of my sites there last year

Saw something on the news the other day saying that the ferries up there have been really ****ed up recently, and will get worse as the two new ones are way behind schedule and over budget.

I frequently look at property up on the north western coast, especially when I’m feeling particularly anti social. It’s totally beautiful, and places to live are very cheap. Then I remember the weather. And the broadband (unless Steelsy has fixed it). And the distance to a decent place to eat.

Have you ever been to Stoke?
