As the title suggests, I am fed up.

I have just traveled from near Bath to London, spending £150 between me and my dad to watch my team lose 6-1. But i'm not fed up at the Chairman.

Not the Manager either.

Or the players.

I'm fed up with the utter drips that have the cheek to call themselves Southampton "Fans".

The fans who think that Adkins should go because we're bottom... after playing four games, three of those against last year's top three. People like the fat b***ard in front of me calling Puncheon "f**king lazy useless c**t".

HE IS ONE OF OUR OWN PLAYERS.

People like the muppet behind me going "It's Cortese's fault because we didn't buy Buttner and Butland". I nearly told him to shove a firework up his a**hole.

I'm sorry, but our chairman is fantastic, the manager is great in most areas, the players are a group of young, talented, hard-working people, and our future looks great.

But a large number of our fans are utter muppets. F**k off, support someone else and moan to your hearts content, because we don't want you.

The fans, who have been there since League One and not just the Premiership, don't want you.

The fans who don't moan because they have seen much, much, MUCH worse times, with A LOT worse chairmen, A LOT worse managers and A LOT worse players.
 
The problem is that a lot of fans are used to winning, they have become spoilt, but I have faith that our Chairman and Manager will not lose their bottle and the club will come through this tricky period a lot stronger. I would never moan at fans that travel to away matches to support the team though.
 
Our fans may have got used to winning, but a number of them weren't happy about it. They were yearning inside for us to start losing again so they had something to moan about.

Saints fans are not unique in this, its how football "supporting" has changed significantly over the last 25 years.

Many football fans are socially inept, with a weak grip on reality. They think following a team will make them part of something, despite the fact these people are never going to part of anything in their life, because the fault lies with their make up as a human being, not what team they "support".

Increasingly think forums like this have ruined football more than Sky money and prima donna players etc etc. I'm probably at fault for trying to fight a losing battle against the tide of the "moron fan" and just ignore them. But it is hard when they are amongst you in the stadiums these days, let alone on the internet like the many trolls on here.

Saddest thing of all... its only going to get worse.

I would. A cushty away trip to Arsenal isn't exactly Hartlepool on a Tuesday evening! I wonder how many of those fans wanting to go to the Emirates will be trying to get a ticket for Goodison?
 
It comes from most people not actually knowing anything about the sport and getting all their opinions fed to them by the moron collective of Talksport/similar brainrot sources, combined the general reactionist state society is in you're bound to find idiots everywhere. People complain so much during the season that they like to see us do badly because it justifies the rubbish they spout everywhere they go.
 
I can barely wait for us not to get a result against Villa and for our "fans" to be leaving 10 mins early and booing at the final whistle.

Its what being a football supporter is all about, the ability to act like a ****ing ****.
 
Great post, this though is written to the doom mongers out there.

When the fixture list came out NA would have sat down and studied the games he felt were likely to give us a positive result. The four games we have played so far would have been listed as three likely defeats and so the Wigan game is one that we should possibly have got points from. With a little more luck on the day we may have achieved results against the Manc clubs. Those points would have been listed as unexpected bonuses, however they were not to be. The season starts now and over the next three league games Saints should reasonably expect to have some points on the board, if not then the merchants of doom that attach themselves to this club will become louder. If the next three games turn around to being 2 or even 3 wins then those now complaining will either still be moaning (because that is all they ever do) or suddenly go from being a critic to the greatest fan. The season lasts 38 games and we will be judged on the results of all those games not just the first four (with three of those against last season's top three.
 
One big problem is that from February onward last year lots of new not606 members have sprung up. Not all of them glory hunters or plastic but a large majority.

One big problem is since we got taken over we have fools going around on other clubs forums or article comments sections spouting off about how we are the 5th richest club in Britain and the plan is to be CL with a 50k stadium in 5 years time.

These sort of fans read or hear something and take it as fact.

My 7 year old son was upset at the first goal:

'why didn't he turn around before he kicked it' he said.

These things happen I said

At 4-0 he went up stairs

a few minutes later he rushed down when he heard me cheering. and then stayed down to watch the rest of the match. He was upset that he had missed the solitary Saints goal.

After the game he was upset. He doesn't understand really about why things like this happen however I let him chill for an hour then asked him

Do you want to support Man Utd or Arsenal?

He said No way - My team is Southampton like you Daddy. When can we watch the Southampton goal???

Moral:
My son is worth 100 of the plastics. He is a real supporter unlike those who continually moan about things without ever seeing any positive.
 
I will never buy into the fact that Saints have glory hunter or plastic fans.

The people from Essex that support man united are plastics.

We have lots of fans that want to see premiership football. So what? They increase our gates and bring in extra revenue. These people don't stop supporting Saints when we drop a league, they just don't go to pay to watch a lower standard of football. WE ARE NOT a big enough club to have plastics and if we do become big enough we should be proud to fill our stadium every week and have a great away following.

So what if a fan thinks stuff going to Exeter on a Tuesday night and would rather go to Saints at home to Man U. Everyone makes their own decisions. If money didn't exist, I'm sure every football stadium across the whole country would be full every game.

It really irks me that people can sit on a forum like this and think they are more of a Saints fan than the next person or have a better opinion. Everyone is equally entitled to an opinion and to support Saints.

A few losses and everyone turns against each other!

On one occasion last season I finally snapped with the bloke behind me who is constantly on Guly's back and I asked him to explain what part his analysis of Guly's performance led him to decide that he was a useless lazy bastard. His reply was fir cough you silly old bugger. Don't you just love articulate intelligent people.

I told Dad that we lost because Guly wasn't playing. This was in belated response to his blaming Guly for losing against Wigan and United.

Some good points here. When I first moved to North London 30 years ago, I would occasionally go along to White Hart Lane to kill a saturday afternoon. Anyone who thinks our fans love to moan should hear the Tottenham faithfull when things go against their team.

I took my eldest who is a cricket nut to Lords yesterday. We had tickets in the Royals section and were surrounded by Saints and a few Pompey fans. Some of the crap they started coming out with by 3.30 was unbelievable! Nigel is useless. Need a new Chairman etc etc. This from people who from chatting earlier are regular attenders at both home and away games.

Yes we have had a bda start but we've played three of the top teams in Europe. If wee are still pointless at Christmas then the inquests can start. Let's get behind Nigel and the team and roar them to victory against the Villa!

I'm sorry, but our chairman is fantastic, the manager is great in most areas, the players are a group of young, talented, hard-working people, and our future looks great.

Two very good statements that sum everything up for me.
I really do have a problem with the term plastic Fan though...........My uncle god rest him supported Saints for Nearly 70 years. It was he who introduced me to the Saints. Unfortunately he had a particularly nasty stroke when he was in his 50's. So could not get about as much as he wanted and was almost house bound for the best part of 30 years. He use to rely on the match reports provided by his sons and me and the odd match that he would see his glorious Saints on the Telly. Despite his stroke he did get to the cup final but it was very difficult and that was the last match he managed to get to. So he had to rely on the reports from us. He used to listen to all the games on the Radio and my Aunt used to say the whole street could hear him when Saints scored. Now I am sure you do not mean this type of fan when you say plastic. If you notice in some of our fans names on here the include an area to which they live. So obviously they cannot get to many games if any. My Brothers and Sisters in Australia and other fans there, my two sons in America and other American fans. All are proven Saints fans and would be there every week but for where they live. Sadly all are included when you call fans plastic. It is an unfortunate term. Don't get me wrong Man U have millions of supporters that have never even seen them live, them as do other clubs. Glory hunters maybe, fans.....well yes, just not able to visit their team of their choice perhaps!
There is no Doubt that listening to some people around you does make you wonder if they are truly a Saints fan. In their eyes though they are sadly. I have some people that sit near me at St Mary's who say they have been Saints fans for over twenty years. My cousin who has been a fan even longer confirms this......yet you should hear this trio moan! I have only been with them for the last three years since I moved seats. Strewth do they moan especially about Puncheon......They would swear though they are Saints fans. My cousin says they have been no different since the day they joined him......It takes all sorts.....

Indeed, so do I. :)

I was in a poor mood last night. Peculiarly, I suppose, it had very little to do with Saints, as I came onto the forum, but it quickly degenerated into a full blown bad mood. Normally I keep away from the forum if I'm not in a good frame of mind, but I made the mistake last night. So apologies if anyone was pee'd off by me. I wasn't moaning about the team. They need to take a little stock and realise that the PL baptism is now over. The real season starts next week, and the positive outlook can return. Aston Villa have had a resurgence under Paul Lambert, but they won't be at the level of the top 3 teams. We need to learn the lessons of Wigan and be confident. Fans included. :)
 
We may have "idiot" supporters but they're our idiots and you can't pick your family.
People have the right to voice their opinions no matter how much you disagree and my only advice is to try and switch on the selective hearing and to enjoy the match as best you can.
As a Saints supporter I'm as enthused about watching them as I ever have been. As with everything you can always improve, but the fundamentals of the club are as good as I have ever known. That's my belief and no one can change that view. Whether I read different comments on here, hear them on the radio or shouted around me in the stands.
 
Maybe a loose term used incorrectly and not really applying to what I meant.

I meant that lots of 'Saints Fans' although still being Saints fans have had a 3 year+ sabatical. They weren't interested when we were relegated or didn't return at the first attempt and only rejoined the following towards the end of the NP Championship.

Nothing to do with bums on seats in the stadium. To me a plastic fan is someone who only 'supports' the side in the good times.

And before that argument arises again a supporter is anyone who adds to the club and purely by watching on TV you are meaning that TV money comes into the club. If we didn't watch, the TV company wouldn't buy the games and therefore Saints would not get TV money. Buying a shirt counts too etc etc.

So I just mean those who lost interest when were away from the 'big time' yet all of a sudden are filling up the forums. It is noticeable how the Saints Forums have suddenly become so busy again.

Well, to be fair, the more popular forums, like this one, are always busy. But I know what you mean. There has been an influx of new forum names, although that hasn't been helped by old posters changing their handles recently. It's true though, and anyone can count the number of posters with June/July/August/Sept 2012 as their join-up dates. Hopefully, they are here for the right reasons, as this has been a good forum since its origin. It only very slightly went downhill, in my opinion [ :) ] when I joined a few months later, having stuck with BBC606 until the bitter end.
